Panigale 899 rumors

From
http://www.infullgear.com/blog/35813/ducati-899-2014-indiscrezioni-esclusive-novita-di-motore-e-forcellone.html
and a google translate for those of you who don't speak the mother tongue
Ducati has traced the lines of the heir of the 848, a motion of "half" displacement that followed partially as seen on the 1199 Panigale, with a few caveats that can make us reflect on the future of the House Bolognese road.
The rumors and reports gathered exclusively by IFG are substantial and structural make up the puzzle of what we can say, there will be a motorcycle designed for racing by virtue of the FIM regulations that restrict the airspace of a twin.
If they wanted to build a Ducati Supersport "Stock" should opt for an engine from 799 cubic centimeters and deal with the technical commissions, so it was not: the next motion will be called Ducati 899 and will have that capacity.
The engine, of course 90 ° L-Twin engine, it will be completely new but built according to what has been seen on 1199. Of about 155 horsepower maximum power limiter set at 11,500 rpm.
Similarly, for 50%, philosophy telaistica: the engine will be carrier-type.
The biggest news about the swingarm Ducati abandoned the single-sided in favor of a new dual-sided "banana"-structure already used by Aprilia.
All eyes at EICMA 2013, the International Motorcycle Exhibition to be held in November at the Fiera Milano-Rho: Ducati 899 could be the real surprise this year, only to be marketed in 2014.

That would be... a 900-class 4-valver. With Panigale bodywork? Yowsers, that could be a hot commodity. Would make an excellent replacement for my 900SS (with roughly double the power).
Honestly, the output of an 1199 scares me. Love the Formula 1 looks, but it's expensive and more power than I can probably work with safely. 155HP out of an 899 version would be *more* than enough for me.

and I venture to guess that's what Ducati is thinking too
looks like they decided not to fight for the Supersport series, and after the failure so far of the SBK I can see why.

I would venture to guess the 899 is going to sell like hotcakes. Cheaper than the 1199 and still more power than pretty much everyone knows what to do with If they can get the looks right. We all know what happened with the last DSS SBK.......(
Though its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

The Desmosedici was insanely popular. Still is.

Wondering if the DSS is a price point decision like on the M696, or a new better design? I've seen other rumor pics of a 899, but the pics show SSA like the standard Panigale.

I have a hard time believing they'd put a DSS on it. Everything is done for the SSS, why change...because it's too pretty?
I also have a hard time believing it will make 155 hp out of the box. I guess it could...at the crank, at sea level, and with race gas.
I'm sure it would sell like crazy though if it looks like an 1199. That's a good looking moto!

If they are going to race it maybe it's a weight issue in using the sssa

Is the SSA so expensive that Ducati must make a DSS to keep costs down?

Probably just an effective way to cut costs. I think fabricating the new style SSS is expensive.
The problem is everyone will want to pay several thousand less for the 899 (?) than the 1199, but the motor doesn't cost Ducati any less. Therefore, they have to make up the difference with a bunch of little corners being cut all over the bike. A good example was the 848 frame originally didn't have an atachment arm for a steering damper like the 1098 did...a small detail, but a couple less steps in manufacturing the frame which probably saved a few dollars. Cheaper suspension, heavier wheels, non LED lights (
), etc. to get the price down.
I think ditching the SSS is a mistake, as it's an important piece in why the 1199 look good. I think consumers might be disappointed seeing the SSS on the 1199 sitting right next to the 899 with its DSS. What do I know though...there's probably a reason why Aprilia and BMW don't make middleweights...tough segment.

Our insurance agents would be willing to help offset that comparative cost!
