Cleaning Gas Cap Seat

Hi,
I'm not sure what the proper term is for this part.  It is the aluminum plate that fits into the gas tank.  As you can see it is heavily corroded.  Does anyone have a recommendation for cleaning it up?  Is it even necessary?  The drain and air holes are clear.  I had to knock out some solid gunk that has set in them.

Try the household cleaner CLR.

I'd also suggest a tank liner, you're getting a lot of rust or keeping the fuel level too low and storing the bike. The moisture is gettin to the steel inside. Most tank lining kits include acid to get rid of that light rusting. Then apply the coating.

I want to ask.. how to put that back.. I had it removed and now I see it is not in the place...on one side it sticks a little.. when I tried to get it on the place without gaskets it fits.. but when I put there a gasket a can not put it in place...

Yes, with the gasket (which you need) it can be a pregnant dog. Tiny hex screws right? Ya gotta get the gasket right, then push the plate down hard to get the screws in properly. Go in a star pattern.

Kit is on the way.  Just waiting on a slow boat across the ocean.  I actually put it in mayonnaise for a few hours.  Took most of the gunk right off.

If you think that makes the gas taste bad you should try it with Pesto. That tastes like crap.
