You beat me to it. What you had written could actually be correct ... semantics is wonderful.

Up-to the 2006 final edition S4R they all had metal tanks and the 996 motor.
In 2007 when the 999 was discontinued the S4RS came out using the leftover 998 motors and brakes. Ohlins suspension was an added bonus.  Unfortunately we have the  plastic tank problem

Unfortunately we have the  plastic tank problem

And that is the crux of the whole damned thing. You get a bad assed motor with awesome suspension and a tank that imitates a blow fish. Don't forget the radial brake.

I mentioned the left over 999 motors and radial 4 piston 4 calipers  brakes.

Eventually I will get an aluminum tank!  I love my S4RS

So ALL S versions are gonna be the plastic tanks? So if I want a metal tank, I can't have the yummy gold Ohlins forks and 998 mill? Boooooooo
If the tank's OK now, it seems doing the Caswell treatment would be well worth those goodies!

That mileage actually kind of bugs me.

Its probably ok. i picked up my 07 last summer and it only had 130 miles on it. guy just had a bunch of bikes and never rode it...

and yeah, like someone else pointed out those are just slip-ons, so make sure he has the correct ecu for slip-ons only i think it should have a different air filter from stock and open box (at least mine did).

good luck! seems pretty clean. not sure why they would have spent money on a carbon OE sized beer tray and chain guards, but hell, the guy i bought mine from painted the carbon fiber hugger silver  Sad

too each their own i guess...

Don't let it bug you too much, I bought my 07 S4Rs in 2010 with 1347 miles on it.  So the story goes at the dealer a guy bought and could not control it so he traded in on a BMW Cruiser, that is where I got it and all the receipts were good.  Not only that he had a Duc dealer put 5000 worth of goodies on it.  All that and it was listed on Craigslist from the Dealer in Chicago.  Rare but it does happen.  But you are right something about those particular accessories and the miles do not fit.

I don't think accessories and miles have anything to do with each other. As far as low mile bikes go, I bought my 2007 in March with 830 miles. It's fine.

And it's listed for 10K on the dealers site so I don't think 8500 is gonna get it. They think its rare so they are pretty proud of it.

I was thinking those are  accessories that someone puts on over a period of time, has been ridden and thought about for a while which usually means time+miles.  Or maybe he just fondles it late at night a couple times a week and rides around the block. laughingdp

Still hasn't hit the reserve, what are you willing to spend on it?

it's actually at a dealer...on their website it's listed at $9999, and it looks like they deal with mostly high end autos...

soo there's that.

That seems pretty high, even with all the goodies.

There's always he S4R down here and getting to ride it around the mountains. You could schedule to pick it up the weekend of Barber Vintage Races and then hit the mountains.

Still considering that one Steve.

I won't pay more than 7k for this one.

You might as well start looking at another. 8500 is S4RS range these days. And the fact that its being sold by a douchy used car dealer isn't gonna help.
