Hey Everyone,

While perusing the parts offerings of one of my automotive suppliers, I found an external electric powered low pressure fuel pump. So I bought two. Anyone game to guniea pig this? ;D

I figure if this works, it'd be a nice replacement for the vacuum operated one, which makes lots of people [bang]

Also, if you do own or have owned a carbureted monster and thing this is a dumb idea, please chime in with your thoughts about it. Sometimes, I come up with an idea and no one likes it...

Thanks,
Chris

I have a carby Monster and have always said if my vacuum pump fails I'd go electric so I think it's a great idea.

My riding season is over though so I'd be no help with a test at this point.

I'm currently flogging my FCR-equipped M750 in daily commute, so I can evaluate it if you like.

I'm interested.  2001 M600 carbie.  It's my daily driver, so I would mainly be interested if this is something I can tackle over the weekend or something.

never actually had a problem with my vacume fuel pump in 100,000 klms, but like DP said, if it failed I'd go electric and probabaly hide it somewhere.

I'd love to be a help to you, but like DP, I fear my riding season is coming to an end…  [shot]

I have been running an electric fuel pump for a few years now.  Its an Airtex unit that matches the flow rate and pressure of the FCR's (which I bought from Chris about 10 years ago).
Smoother idle and easier start ups.  When I first put it on, neighbor came over asking what I have done.  Said the bike sounded "different".

Put it under the seat, where the oil vapor box would go.
Had to put a heat shield between it and the the header to help out with idling in stop and go traffic (Boston in summer).
Still need a fuel cut off.  Fuel will free flow thru it even when turned off.

I think it would be great to supply an upgrade kit.  I would have bought one if it was available at the time.  Kind of a pain figuring out brackets, wiring harness, fuel line routing, ect ect.

Hi Chris,
I got a '98 M900 with 41MM FCRs from you. I'll hook one up if you send it to Florida. I'm getting ready to do a service so it's perfect timing.

I assume I won't need a manual petcock, I took off the vacuum one years ago.

Thanks.

CB Performance sells a small rotary pump rated @ 3.5 psi. Been putting them on Monsters instead of those pissy vacuum pumps since at least 1994-5. If they are similar to what you are playing with, they are fantastic  and have yet to see one fail.

Oooo, that's great! Yes please send an email to orders@ca-cycleworks.com with your info and we'll get it out to you. :D

Cool, I think we've got our pumps out to the two initial testers. Let's hope this works out ok. I saw it when browsing the catalog and thought of the carby monsters...
