Author Topic: AFAM vs Superlite Quick Exchange Carrier  (Read 3417 times)

Are these 2 basically the same quick exchange carrier? Except AFAM renamed it to Superlite? I'm looking online and I can't seem to tell a difference other than price.

99% sure they're the same  waytogo

Drive Systems / AFAM / Superlite is confusing, but the PCD1 / 2 / 3 model names suggest we're talking about the same product.

Drive systems / AFAM/ Superlite are all the same thing.
Unsure of why they use 3 names interchangeably or even all together on their packaging, but yes it is all the same thing

Quick change Sprocket is cool bling, but unless you're changing gearing often for the track, i personally can't justify the cost. I get ~15k miles per Sprocket, so just some food for thought.. YMMV.

Well the main reason I want the carrier is for the tabs to prevent the cushings from backing out. I'll be changing the cushings also but just for piece of mind.

I went with the quick change because it was cheaper than a single supersprox lightweight sprocket. And the next time I replace the teeth, it will be even less expensive. FWIW I'm riding 600+ miles a week...

On another note is there a reason why the AFAM carrier is almost twice as expensive as the JT one? And the JT has superior aluminum being made of 7075 grade compared to AFAM's 6061.

Additionally, can someone refer me to a guide to do the install? I found CA-cycleworks one but that is like 10 years old with crappy video. And he doesn't show installing it on the bike, just torqueing the sprocket to the carrier..

Slacken the chain first, the follow the manual or translate it / incorporate it with common sense.

Paste - copy:

Remove the clip (A) of the nut (B) ( B is the main nut, left side
Lock out wheel shaft rotation and loosen the lock nut (B) with a socket wrench.
Undo the nut (B) fully and remove the washer (C) and the flange (10) together with the rear sprocket (7).
Collect the spacer with a collar (D).
Tap the flange (10) with cush drive damper (9) with a mallet to push it out of the rear sprocket (7).
Refitting the rear sprocket:
Check the cush drive damper bushes (9); remove them from the flange and replace them if needed.

Follow the same procedure in the reverse order to refit.
If needed, remove the cush drive damper bushes (9) and grease all mating surfaces and the under head of the nuts (13) retaining the cush drive damper bushes (9) with the recommended grease.
Check for wear as described at the beginning of this section.
To refit the nut (B) and clip (A) securing the rear sprocket plate, see the specifications given for the wheel
lock nut in Sect. G 4. ( grease and 156Nm

Sorry about the old grainy video. We are working on a new one and hope to release it by the end of the month. In our experience, the JT carrier isn't that great of a fit with any other sprocket besides JT and even then it scratches up a lot when changing the sprocket the next time. We opt for the products that make us and our customers the most happy and that happens to be AFAM.
