After market digital clocks for 2000 M900 Dark?

I've searched the forum and looked for any articles on aftermarket clocks.  I've googled it and got some results but wasn't trilled with any products I've seen so far.  Does anyone have info on digital clocks for replacing my current one?  Since I'm doing lots of other stuff now would be a good time to swap them out and upgrade if feasible.

There's a million aftermarket digital gauges out there.

Are you looking for something that is a plug and play swap for the OEM gauges? If so, those probably don't exist.

From what I read I see having to put pickups near the front tire and maybe mod the ECU?  This is way out of my knowledge base.  Is there a direction you can point me in where I might catch up on what I need to know to make an informed decision?

There are tons...Danmoto (cheaper ~$150) to Motogadget (north of ~$400)  but they have one thing in common...nothing PnP.
I will be trying out the TrailTech Vapor for my current build.  I have heard a lot of good things on them.  Danmoto is good/functional but just cheap!

I did a Danmono 180 digital gauge on my 750 a year back, it's okay and pretty straight forward.  Just hook up the wires using the diagram and figure out a way to mount the pickup sensor and such.  Didn't have to mess with ECU like them newer bikes with fuel injections.

Correct me if I'm wrong but your 2000 M900 is carbureted too right?

Just a FYI. I have used a TrailTech Vapor on an earlier build and found that the warning lights as supplied are very dim in spite of their upgrading them. I suggest you plan on replacing the LED bulbs with more efficient ones. You also might need to add a relay triggered circuit for the low fuel light. Other than those two quibbles, it is a good unit.

That's neat! I like that.

Yeah the lights are yuck! But I had other option to go with and just purchase the dash only, not the lights bracket.

Unfortunately I did not do a write up.  This is by far the most helpful thread, but it is for a fuel injected Monster: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=44219.0  IMO a non-immobilized carbie is much more easy than a FI bike :)

Hey Josh how did you hook up the tach?

Since my bike is carb'd, I ran the negative tach wire to the frame and the positive tach wire to the top of my coil.  Here is a picture from The Mad King Pepe' who helped me out big time with the install.  The positive tach signal wire is hooked to the spade connector in front of his middle finger in this picture.  You can see the tach wire running to it:

Thanks for all the info.  The M900 Dark is FI, not carb, so yeah, there is an ECU, although I have no idea where it is located. :(

Josh what's the spec of resistor do you use inline of the positive tach wire?

Good question.  My notes from The Mad King Pepe': use a 600k ohm resistor.  The RadioShack nearest me didn't have a 600k so I either put in a 470k or a 1M (can't remember).

i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.
