DMG/AMA's version of "jumping the shark"

I know this thread won't attract much attention but it's still worth noting. Kind of like putting lipstick on a pig.
I just remember when the 200 was a ball buster and international racing stars put it on their calenders to compete. I guess DMG is clutching at straws.
Had hopes of Aprilla joing the DMG/AMA fray but with their $$ troubles I know that's dead in the water. You can pretty much count the season full of races this year on one hand. Sad.

If Dunlop doesn't get those tires up to speed, it'll look like the Roman Coliseum out there. Which itself would be entertaining, but I'm not sure that killing half the field will ensure longevity for the series.

IIRC, the whole reason they went away from the 1000's was that the tires couldn't handle it.
Perhaps Dunlop has the magic recipe.
If they aligned the rulebook with WSBK and did the event between Laguna and Jerez, they could likely snag some of the WSBK contingent.
Unfortunately, that's late July.

You're both right. The tires have to be spot on and that has even been a problem a year or so ago with the 600s running the 200. Either that or there will be mandatory pit stop/wheel changes every couple of laps.

Late July in Daytona? You're crazy.
Simply speaking the 200 should still be considered a premiere event.

Never said July was a good idea, just a way to possibly get the WSBK crew in it.
Yes, it should be a premeire event.
How is the question.

The normal marketing BS is to use the history of the event. What they should focus on is developing young riders and presume that it will eventually become a US feeder to WSBK and hopefully MotoGP. If viewers start thinking that at least one of the young riders might eventually make it to the big show, then you might slowly bring back the sport.

In this day and time why would any world class rider (or team) risk it all to compete in the 200? In it's days as a true premiere event GP riders would fight to get on the grid. It was a true badge of honor to have that win on your racing resume. Today not so much.
I miss the days of the Superbikes and tricked out 500 GP bikes competing. But things are different in today's environment and economy. I'll just live with my memories.

Blame modern racing; the equipment (bikes, tires, lubricants, fuels, etc.) in every venue/class is regulated so tightly that there's no room for anything outside the box, so to speak. Modern bikes are now scalpels - super sharp with only one purpose - the one they were designed to compete/win in.
