Cluth friction material thikness

I'm doin a bit of work on my '00 Monster 750 with 20,000 miles, and while I'm waiting on parts I figured I may as well pull off the engine covers to look at stuff. 
I've gotten my right cover off and while everything seems to be in good condition, the friction material is probably about 1/2 the thickness of a fingernail. 
Should I replace the plates since I already have stuff apart or is there still life in them?

Also, on removing the left side, is there anything special I need to do, or is it just take out the bolts and work the cover off?

I'm mechanically inclined, I just have no experience working this kind of stuff.

If the clutch isn't slipping and is in otherwise workable shape, it probably doesn't need changing.  The left side cover comes off much easier with one of these;

Yanked the left side tonight.  It won't screw with my timing will it?

Also, if I were to replace the clutch plates, anybody gt any recommendations?

Not if all you did was pull the cover.

I haven't had any problems with the Barnett plates I put in the Monster other than nuetral ebing a bit harder to get to.  You want to make sure you use steel plates with a steel basket and AL plates with an AL basket.
