A couple of weeks ago on a thankfully-dry day the reserve light came on my 695 en route to work. I thought no problem, I'd stop by the ethanol-free gas station on the way home.  By the time I made it to the office the countdown was at 16 or so miles.

After work, I remarked to my boss that I was picking up gas on the way home and ha-ha, hoped I made it as there was heavy traffic reported.  If I'd thought for just three more seconds about WHY I go to the fancy ethanol-free gas station that's just a little out of my way, I wouldn't have found myself stuck at the side of a busy thoroughfare with a dry tank.  See, I replaced the original puffy tank last summer and had it coated prior to installation on the bike.  With just a little under 11 miles showing on the countdown (which took no prisoners back with the stock tank--if it read 20 miles to empty, you couldn't make it to a gas station 21 miles away) I was on the horn with AAA.  

So everyone with a coated replacement plastic tank, let my tale serve as a reminder that the capacity is just a wee bit smaller afterwards.

I recently ran out of gas right at the Turtle Bar on Highway128 in Lake Berryessa made it 28.8 miles on reserve and was unwilling to risk 21 more miles.  Gotta love riding buddies and Gatorade bottles.

I had my new replacement tank coated as well and noticed a bit less capacity. That said, I have made it 30 miles with the light on. This is on my 06 S2R1000 which averages 49-50mpg...

I had the puffy tank on my M1100 EVO replaced recently too and I had it coated.  I'm curious though, why are you bothering with ethanol free gas if you had the tank coated?

I have no choice as it is virtually impossible to find ethanol free gas in SoCal.

I am still using Ethanol-free gasoline when I can as I don't know anything about the quality level of the coating.  I have no reason to believe it isn't a good, solid coat.
