Mine did the same thing. I noticed there is a left hand thread, and a right hand thread. They were on the wrong side. They should tighten as the wind hits them. If this is not the case with yours try a small amount of loctite (blue) should work fine here.

No problem with my mirrors, yet.  Maybe I just need to go a little faster.

Really? Isn't that the opposite of how they are with previous Monsters - that they loosen if they're hit back while the bike is moving forward instead of snapping off?

That's one way of looking at it. But if you are hitting stuff with your mirrors while you are moving forward your probably not going to worried about them for long. Please wear your helmet.

that makes a lot of sense...

too much sense if you ask me ;)

I tightened them up a bit... no more problems... but they're still useless to me.  (i'd like to roll them forward, but that means putting my brake and clutch levers lower, and i don't know how far is too far.)

I am 6'1'' and have trouble using the mirrors.  I think I am going to replace them with the bar end mirrors.  They look pretty cool.

1) ducati monster mirrors are notorious for being ugly AND useless. seems like maybe 8 out of 10 peeps complain about not being able to see anything of value in them.

2) 707soldier... try being a little less sensitive about your model of monster. some like it, some dont. eventually most of the disdain will go away (hopefully sooner than it did for the 999)

just rode home and the right mirror (one that hadnt come loose yet) started beating my forearm to death.

I rode a 696 over the weekend and found the mirrors much better than the stock ones on my 620. That doesn't mean they're not still relatively useless, just less abjectly so than the old ones.

I've got my controls rolled as far forward as they will go, and I'd move them farther if I could. The controls don't care where they are as long as you can reach them and no lines are screwed with.

Edit: The 696 looks MUCH better in person than in nearly any photos I've seen. Even the headlight doesn't bug me. It was a pretty sweet ride with major ergonomic improvements over my '05 620. I see one in my (or possibly my wife's) future.

Took another look at it, and don't need to move the levers, but the fluid reservoirs... is that going to effect them?  (other than the need to park on a slope to check their levels?)

Hmm. AFAIK the levers and reservoirs move together since they're coffins. I don't think the reservoirs need to be level.

Maybe i looked better the first time...  In any case, i'll see what i can do, it'd be nice to have an idea that a hummer isn't cruising up my ass on the 101.

Though i have been pretty surprised for the most part how much leeway MOST cages are giving me. (aside from the rooster who spit out his window as i was coming up on his left side, i'm just glad that objects in his mirror were apparently farther away than they seemed)

Mine was loose when I picked it up at the dealer.  They tightened it up, but came loose again about a week later.  Put on some blue locktite, no more problem.  Other than that, the mirrors are fine.

whidbeymonster

i got the bar ends, expensive but worth it. don't add too much width for lane splitting, definately more friendly for tall riders.
