Happened to me too.
The set up is an engineering mess.
Ordered some CRG LSs.

Really? Isn't that the opposite of how they are with previous Monsters - that they loosen if they're hit back while the bike is moving forward instead of snapping off?

i've heard a hundred reasons for the way that they are threaded, but this one makes the most sense by far.  i'm sticking with this

CRG Lane splitter. Thats all you need.

Indeed, I put the Hindsight LS (folding) mirrors on my bar ends, and they work fantastic, I can see everything I need to now without my elbows getting in the way. Plus I got bar ends for it in the process.

Sorry to hijack the topic...  but how you remove the bar end?  i would like to install the soft foam grip (my hands get cramp easy).

thanks.

Pair of pliers, pull gently outward, its a plastic cap.

Any of you fellas have pics of mirror stalk and thread size of mirrors once removed?

I'm interested to know whether they're the same thread size as 695/s2r/s4r mirrors.

So i got around to adjusting the mount, not so easy it turns out... first of all,  the allen bolts were so tight i couldn't tell if i was tightening or loosening them.. I tried several times but felt like i was about to strip the head.... tried again a few weeks later and the bottom one had loosened quite a bit (hope that's not a trend).

Couldn't adjust them very much...cables and whatnot in the way. I thought i'd go about ten degrees forward, but i'd be surprised if i got two.

Surprisingly that's all it needed...before i had the glass tilted up as far as it would go and was staring at the lines dissapear next to my tire... now, the glass isn't even full tilt and i can actually see the car sitting behind me at the light.

They're functional!!!! I can't believe it.  And you wouldn't believe how much more relaxing it is to ride when you can actually take a quick glance behind you without pulling a move from "The Exorcist".

I'm sure LS barends are in my future... but for now i'm a happy boy.

Can you guys tell me if previous gen monster mirrors will fit the new 696 mounts?

when i get my baby, i plan to take off those fugly mirrors and get my CRG bar ends back on...

those things were bad ass...

when i tipped over they never broke off,the mirrors never broke, and even with my accident, they were still intact and perfect  [laugh]

not to dig up an old thread, but I am having serious issues with left stock mirror (even blew off while hubby riding, he caught it mid-air!)
The plastic threads are stripped inside so Loctite not holding, neither is another strong adhesive and fed up.  I prefer the appearance of something sleeker like the bar ends BUT have Rizoma bar end/sliders would like to KEEP-now what are my options for bar clamp mirrors or ?????

i'm confused. there are no plastic threads. the bolt goes through the mirror into the base. the mirror is clamped down.

have you taken it to the dealership. supposed this is an issue and they help pay for new mirrors or something.

i bought some bar end mirrors similar to the rizoma retros, but haven't been able to install them due to finding the right bar end adaptors. i wish i could afford the rizoma prototype mirrors Asado has on his bike...

As others have mentioned, the METRIC allen wrench set is key.  It's an italian bike and all the sizes are metric.  While many standard sizes are similar there are some that are different enough to start stripping stuff out.  Get yourself a metric allen wrench set at any hardware store and you'll be set with any of the bolts on the bike.  All you have to do is tighten that sucker down real good and it won't move.

Useful mirrors... well not much to be done there.  I've set mine up so that I can see into the other lanes a little better than trying directly behind me.  It's a compromise but it's useful for me since I'm usually not getting passed on the road.   [moto]

I never had the mirrors fly off, but i did have them loosen and whack me in the forearm while driving.

In the end (when picking it up from the dealer from an unrelated service) the left mirror just wouldn't tighten down.

I got the CRG and the rinomoto slider/adapters.  Frickin' love them.

Yup, left just will NOT stay tightened any longer-even with proper wrench, Loctite etc....  and it did fly off while hubby was riding it (but he prolly just ignored it spinning around a couple times before that happened  [roll] )
Tightened AGAIN, but still searching for bar CLAMP? mirrors I like better and are useful.

I bought these.  They are a pain to install.  If you look at the brass expander, it only grips the inside of the bar at the very bottom or wide part where it expands.  If you bump the mirror, the whole assembly works loose.

On my old bike, I had the Napoleon bar end mirrors.  Those had a rubber seal over the expanding screw inside, so once in contacted the bar, it would stay put.  So I'm thinking of fashioning a rubber seal from some rubber to keep them in place.

Also, these mirrors are not easy to adjust, and once they are locked in place, that's it.  They won't adjust while riding.
