Hi guys.. I have some oil leak under the horizontal belt cover on monster 620ie...  it looks it is leaking under the "double wheel".. is there any solution without dismounting whole engine?? thanks

That should be the layshaft seal. No need to remove the engine, all you remove is those two pulleys and pull the seal out.

Forget the part number right now, but look up the procedure. It's basically remove belts, remove the two pulleys, remove small clip infront of the old seal (the one thing that had me working for two damn hours in a really easy and otherwise painless replacement) , and remove the old seal with anything that grabs/pokes and pulls it out, press in new seal. Reinstall everything else in order.
M620 turned M800 but then back to M620 after the M800 died at 110k, and now to Multi 1000.

What thorn14 said.

That clip is especially fun.  [bang]
Sometimes the woodruff keys are fun too.

You will need the special socket to fit the spanner nut that holds the pulleys on, and a method of holding the pulley.
The nut is quite tight.

+2 for the layshaft seal. My 620 had the same leak. Clip and woodruff key as mentioned. Also, some cases have a small indent which holds the seal more in place. Can cause a pain when trying to remove the old seal. I used a small pick and basically destroyed the old seal getting it out (it was bad anyway, so no big deal). Also, you can make the special socket out of a normal socket if you have a little grinder.

can anybody write part number for that seal?? or just dimensions of aftermarket seal?? thanks a lot

rule62

pretty sure the part number is 93875.1830

It's been almost exactly 4 years since I replaced mine.  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=37777.0

So yeah, this is resurrecting an old thread but.....

I had the 18000 mile service done on the M821 a couple weeks ago. Had a small oil leak coming from behind the horz cyl cover. Diagnosed as a layshaft seal leak and replaced under warranty.

Fast forward a week or so and it's leaking again. WTF?

Bad layshaft bearing?

Improper installation of the replacement seal?

Well, it's headed back in for service soon. Hopefully it's something they did wrong the first time. This shop doesn't have loaners...

I believe GP Cycles in San Diego has loaners. I know the bike I purchased from them was used as a loaner at one point.

Let's hope you're not in my shoes  :P

I hope not. It's got less than 20k miles on it!

Used the doc below when I replaced my seal, it's a nice walk through.
