Hello,

I did an engine swap on a 1999 M750 a while back; now the bike has a 900 engine in it.

The wiring and harness & other electrical stuff is unchanged.  What I want to do is change out the old 750 gauges (no tach) and replace with the gauges/dashboard from a 2001 M900.

There is a new one on ebay, the entire unit new for $240.00.

Does anyone know if the 2001 dashboard/guage cluster will 'plug-in' to the wiring on a 1999 750?

Thanks for any ideas you can offer  :)

I put an M900ie cluster (minus the tacho) on my '98 M750.

You'll end up lacking one idiot light, *if* you can get the tacho to work.
I suspect the 900ie tacho works on a "pulse signal once per rev", and that may be a problem.

I used an SPA tacho, so I'm lacking two idiot lights.
The neutral wiring is fubared somewhere in the harness, so that light got swapped to oil pressure.
I don't have the sidestand switch.
So I've got high beam, turn signal, low fuel, and oil pressure (on the neutral light).

IIRC, the plugs are the same, but you'll need to juggle the wiring around a bit to get the right idiot lights.
I don't remember exactly what I had to do.
There were some broken wires in the bits I was putting together, and added wiring for the SPA tacho, so it was a bit of a fiasco.

Carbed bikes have a different tacho signal than the efi bikes.  Other than that and the wiring issues above, it ought to work.

hey thanks everyone for the responses.   Looks like i have a bit of mucking around to do to make this work....maybe i'll keep looking for a dashboard off a '99 900.

unfortunately, just purchasing a tachometer will not solve the problem, as the 99 750 didn't have a tach & the original dashboard is still on the bike.  i need the whole unit that was meant for a 900 with a cable driven tachometer: dashboard, both gauges & idiot lights.

i appreciate the suggestions  :)

hmmm....i also just realized that the front tire on a 750 is different size than 900, so the speedo will be wrong.

i think i may just purchase a friggin' tach by itself and figure out a way to mount it up front.

Waitaminit.

What year 900 motor is it?

The horizontal head has the tacho drive on it?

FWIW, the speedo is gonna be wrong no matter what.  :P

speedo drive is different, speedo is the same for the tyre size.

ss carby motors have a cable tacho drive.

What year 900 dash did you use?

I bought the same one 2001 dash the OP is looking at for my carbed 900 build, based on the results of this research;

Part numbers for the wiring harness AND speedometer are the SAME. So I can't think of *any* reason why the idiot lights wouldn't all work. The speedo is mechanical, so that was that. I figured at worst case scenario I'd need to swap out the tach and I'd be fine. I didn't even think that should be necessary, since it's a mechanical tach.

Still sitting in it's box waiting for me to build my bike though, so that's all theory. :)

I'd like to see pics of the front and back of this 2001 M900 gauge cluster.

Cable drive speedo and tacho is what you're saying, yes?

Yep, or so I thought;

Back:

The part numbers that are identical between the '01 M750 and '01 M900 are the following: speedometer, wiring pigtail. Basically the tach is the only thing whose numbers don't jive. The backside looks identical to my M750 dash, here's a photo for reference of the M750 backside:
