I adore the RR exhaust and I'm somewhat committed to it, but it is going to need some serious overhauling to be suitable for this bike. Drilled out the rivets and pulled this giant turd out:



The whole thing needs gutted and re-done. There's like 3 chambers of baffling all wrapped up in some cruddy steel wool. All that is going in the trash in favor of a straight perforated tube wrapped with some fiberglass. There's some posts on the "other" board detailing this a long with much improved flow and a better exhaust note. And I have a local metal guy making some new end caps out of aluminum, and all will be ceramic coated. So this piece of poo will be made worthy.

The end cap/baffle/glass pack like this V&H. Too bad it's 3.375" instead of 3".

Unless, of course, you want to sell me your end caps and baffles.

Fwiw, mine had the baffles taken out and it was just the perf pipe and steel wool wrapping. Yes, it's loud.

According to my crappy caliper, our exhaust is 3.19" OD and 2.9" ID. I had actually bought these from Summit racing and was optimistic:



"Dynatech Torq tips" they're billet and very clean looking, but too small. Supposedly meant for Harley 3" exhausts, but instead of coming flush with the outside, they slide all the way in and are flush with the inside. Didn't look right.

Now I wish I'd snapped up the MH900 tips that were on eBay, but they're gone now.

The ones in the link you posted, are you looking to buy the whole piece, end caps and baffles?

FK Rod ends installed- I used Ti flange and Bumax 88 stainless M10 nuts. Lighter, stronger, and way better looking than the old plated junk.



Question for Monsta: were you able to find replacement "special screws" and sleeve bearings that secure the rod ends to the swingarm? they seem to be some kind of unobtanium same size thread shoulder screw. The sleeve bearings are no biggie but I'd like to replace the "special screw" with Ti or stainless.

I was just going to buy the end cap, baffle, and "wrap" until I talked to V&H and they told me the ID of that exhaust is 3 3/8th" so it won't fit.

There's a whole lot of like stuff on J&P cycles, but your news about a "3" Harley" endcap being too small is a blow to morale. I assumed if would fit brilliantly.


Are you interested in selling me your end caps and baffles?  (I tried to PM last night from Tapatalk but it doesn't appear it went through)

Hey Dlearl476, double check your inbox and lemme know, I wrote a reply before I went to bed last night but maybe it didn't go through.

According to my fabricator friend who cut and rewelded my headers, that us one of the most unique exhausts he's ever seen. Apparently there is no off the shelf pipe that size, RR fabbed up something proprietory!  Very unusual.  He had to build a device to hold everything and taper/turn down the connecting piece. You can see where it's slightly thicker in this pic:

Exhaust guys or ladies, can ya help me out?


Here I sit with my freshly cored and coated RR system, and as it's completely empty inside I need to do something about that.



It's the only pic I have but ya get the idea...I'm just wondering, of the different types of baffles pictured;

Short:



Long (but with fiberglass packed to the muffler walls):



Long and narrow with a "bandage" type wrap;

I'm not trying to over think this...it's the opposite...I just want something simple that will tone down the deafening roar a bit, and have a good over all performance effect, preferably a balance between low/mid range benefit and top end...just a good all around/neutral type of choice.

Just throw a long perf stainless tube and wrap it with stainless or fiberglass or both. A few of those shorter ones seem more like db killers.

No, still using the standard one's.
But now that you have pointed it out, I might have to go and machine some up!!   bang head

Between the fiberglass wrap and the large-holed perf tube people mention above (2nd pic you posted w/the Kerker can), you'll need to wrap the perf tube with a very fine stainless steel mesh.  Otherwise (ask me how I know this), the fiberglass mesh will vacate itself from the muffler in just north of no time at all.

Don't ask me where to find it as I didn't get a chance to re-pack the mufflers on a custom I had built.  The customer just opted for someone else to build another set of pipes.
