Compatable swingarms and rims for a 2000

So I have been searching and have some of my questions figured out hopefully you guys can help with the rest. I have a 2000 M900.

I know some aluminum swing arms are bolt in but what years? And will the hugger of my swing arm work also?

What other rims are easy bolt on? I would love to do the s4 5 spokes but from what I have read the front is flair easy but rear takes a lot more work to find right bearings and spacers.

But in all the reading I never heard anyone if you could just swap in say a 2001 swing arm so the rim would easily work.

You're not gonna save too much weight, wheels, should be PnP . . .If you can get your hands on said set of wheels, lucky you, they're becoming harder and harder to get

Not so much trying to save weight just trying to make it a little different. But than I guess it will just look like a different model year.

Any aluminum Monster swingarm up to and including 2001 will fit, excluding 2001 S4 swingarm.
Make sure it comes with the axle blocks and adjuster endcaps, the ones from a steel swingarm won't fit.
Best if it comes with the matching axle, it's a bit longer.

I'm assuming you have the non-floating rear caliper setup.
To keep that, you'll need the stop pin and bolt from an 851, it bolts in place of the brake hose clip.



There may have been aluminum swingarms OEM on Monsters with the non-floating rear caliper, not sure.

I suspect an 851 swingarm will bolt right in, AFAIK it's the same part.

Hugger from the steel swingarm will not fit.

The only OEM 5-spoke wheel that will bolt in is from 1000SS.

Then you'll have something like this:

My 96 has a non floating rear brake. That pin is welded in place for the brake caliper bracket.

the 900ss had 5 spoke wheels with a 17mm rear axle, they'll work.

i had a customer who went from 3 to 5 spoke wheels in his 748 and he said he could feel a difference.

Yes, that's my M750.

The 5-spoke rear will save you about 1 1/2 lbs , and the front 2 to 2 1/2 lbs, depending on which 3-spokers you have.
Not a lot, but it's the best place to save weight, IMO.

I saved about the 2 lbs front and about 6 lbs rear on my S4, going from the OEM 5-spokers to magnesium 5-spokers.
I didn't hear angels singing, but it was definitely noticeable.

Will the hoop ( not sure the correct name) from the steel one work on the aluminum one?

Hoop will fit, may have longer bolts.
