I'm finally getting around to replacing my inner clutch hub on my '01 Monster 900, and I see the part # is 196.1.001.1B which includes the 748's, 996's and 998's. While looking on ebay, they have oem hubs that are for 748,749,996,998,999 and 1098 but the 749, 999 and 1098 have a 196.1.001.1.1B #. There also seems to be a difference on the design of the back of the hub. Some are open with space for those rubber dampers to fit and some have splines through the middle.

I really need help on what exactly I'm looking for since there seems to be confusion between vendors on what hub is for which model.

196.1.001.1B Clutch drum - is the aluminum outer part, with the spring posts and outer splines to mate with the steels, and the blades on the inside to mate with the rubber dampers.

That's the original number, it supersedes to 196.1.001.2B Clutch drum.

If you are buying new, check out what our sponsors have on offer. There are alloy aftermarket hubs/drums also available which have less rotating mass.

Thank you very much, ducati of Omaha has the part #'s but doesn't tell if there is any updates. So all 2000 and up dry clutch drums will work?

I don't know for sure. There are dry clutch parts that span early '90s right through roughly twenty years. I know that Monsterparts has an aftermarket hub/drum that will fit. Ducati Performance sell them too, or used to. I don't know which cost less in your part of the world. Don't assume OEM is better. My bike is covered in aftermarket parts that are much better quality at half the price.
Let us know what you find. There are many choices on baskets, but not so many on drums.

I know it doesn't answer your question but you should heed Koko's advice...billet hubs are  drool

even if it's not from a sponsor (sorry)

btw Commoto is significantly cheaper than Ducati Omaha on almost everything, usually.

That's what I was looking at Buck Naked. HDESA has billet for $99.00, I really just want to go back to all my springs. I only use Ducati of Omaha for their parts diagrams.

That drum/hub is the cush drive type and not complete. If you can use the innards of your current hub then it's a good price. If the innards need replacing then the price becomes less attractive. If you want a full, solid, billet hub, then try Monsterparts. Maybe Vee Two still have some on their Ebay site. I am not sure if the other sponsors have drum/hubs available besides slipper clutch types.

It looks identical to the SSR one for $199 on Monsterparts?

This is an OEM style part, but has no manufacturer markings, requires all of the rest of the hub to make a complete functioning unit (steel inner hub, rubber cush drive blocks, big shim washer, top hat flange, etc.)

This is a complete solid hub, no cush components, material and manufacturer unknown:

Monsterparts SSR unit is a known material, known manufacturer, and sold by a DMF sponsor distributor:

Yep +1.
One is a cush drive type. It's only half of what you need.
The other one is HDESA? American? Do they make their own or import the parts?

I'm biased towards the sponsors for sure. Grin

Ok I understand and agree with the spirit of what you guys are saying here; Jeff is a great dude who stands behind the parts he sells and contributes to the forum we all love. But the HDESA *solid* hub and the SSR are functionally the same piece, and one is twice the price. The OP can decide on how much value he places on the guaranteed integrity of the seller, but otherwise - same thing. They are the same. And SSR does not manufacture they're own parts, they are asian made. Not to say there's anything wrong with that, but the only thing going for it is the name and the person selling it. Were it my hard earned money, I would consider: the positive feedback of HDESA, the apparent simplicity of such a machined part, and the 100% difference in price between the 2.

My opinion on SSR has softened up a bit recently but let's not forget, they originally got their foot in the door by selling asian made Ducati Performance knock off parts that they slapped their own brand name on. Buying from Jeff is a huge plus, sure but it's not like we're comparing the HDESA part with Ducati Performance, Speedymoto, STM, etc...SSR ain't no high end manufacturer with a long, impressive history of making propitiatory Duc parts.

Is HDESA local to you? I'd not heard of them, but I had the notion they were a US company.
Half the price is hard to argue against if the product is good.

I stand by the sponsorship thing, that's not to say I buy everything from sponsors, but they are my first option when considering parts.

I didn't mean to start a debate. I honestly do not know the quality of hdesa, I just find it hard to justify paying double the amount for the same thing. Regardless of who makes it, the start with a slug of aluminum, put it in the cnc machine then walk away.

No debate here, nor rhetorical questions, just thought HDESA were a US company. I'd not heard of them 'til now. waytogo

So do you think you will change out more than the hub in the end (overhaul) or just the hub?
