Adjusting valves on Monster 1100 EVO

I'm at the 15,000 mile mark on my 2012 Monster 1100 EVO and started taking it apart to do the valve adjustment and replace the timing belts.  My intake valves are within spec but the exhaust valves have zero tolerance on the unloaded gap but too much on the loaded gap.  The vertical cylinder I was able to slide a .016 feeler gauge when measuring the loaded gap and .009 on the horizontal cylinder.

My dealer did the valve adjustment at 7500 miles and they said both exhaust valves were tight.  Is it possible they didn't measure correctly?

Also, the + post on my battery is bent and since the battery is 3 years old and a pregnant dog to get at I'm thinking I'm just going to replace it since I have the tank off and battery out anyway.

Oh, and I had to remove the exhaust to clean the screen at the bottom of the oil pan.  There was a bit of debris collected on it but I think the majority of it was bits of gasket material, nothing metallic.  Removing the exhaust was pretty easy actually.

i waste precious little brain power wondering what people have done previously.  i just work at making it correct when i'm doing it.  who knows what has happened prior to now.

Yeah, it was more of just an observation than a question.  The loaded gap just seemed so far out of spec that it made me wonder what might have contributed to that.  It was like that on both exhaust valves.

I agree though, make it right, double check everything.   [thumbsup]

Hey SD,  How did you remove the fuel tank lines?  Every time I take my tank off I have to sit it on the side with the lines attached.  Not really sure how or where they detach....

Could use a manual....
Two things I don't do.  Keyboard bullies and hypocrites.
Feel free to PM me if needed, otherwise you will find me elsewhere.

There are quick disconnects under that cover at the bottom of the tank.  You have to remove the plastic cover and then you can access the fuel pump and fuel lines.  Just squeeze the quick disconnects and they pull right off.  Helps if you drain the tank first though. ;)

They say to just leave it attached and support it off to the side but it would just be in the way and I didn't want to risk having it slip off or getting bumped and then putting all that weight on the fuel lines if something like that did happen.
