Cheapskate Mods

Well, it's safe to say that my owner was none too pleased when I brought the Duc home a few weeks ago. With 3 other bikes, and 2 kids, she gets kinda crabby when I shell out some money.
In my defense, I bought an 01 750 that was in great shape. None the less, I decided that dropping a big chunk of change on it at first would have most likely led to my stuff being on the lawn and the locks being changed.
I wanted to see what I could do for about $100, here's what I came up with.....
First off, the stock tail had to go, looked like a big black tongue hanging off the back. So I did the tail chop, using LEDs in the end of the frame tubes.
LEDs $16
Electronic Flasher $10
I like the looks of the corse stripe, so I got some generic "monster" stripe off Feebay. I know it's supposed to be off center, but I'm just too damn linear to not have put it down the center.
Feebay stripe $34

Lastly, I installed my $14 high performance exhaust....
The Vance and Hines badge was $7 each from my local parts unlimited guy (part number V22682)
Not bad for $74....any body else have some low budget mods? I still have $26 left! [moto]

I once got paid to put a set of Marchesini wheels on my Monster.
Here's the story in case you missed it on TOB.
I won the first one (rear) on Ebay for a little over $200. It turned out the guy was local so I went to meet him to pick it up to save the $40.00 in shipping. At the time I didn't know that Brembo and Marchesini was the same company so I questioned whether the wheel was a Marchesini becasue it had "Brembo" cast into the spoke of the wheel.
As it turned out the guy needed money really bad and didn't want to wait for me to do a little research so I ended up getting it for $100.
While I was there he offered me a set of front rotors for an additional $20 so I bought them as well.
I asked if he had the matching front wheel available but he had sold it to someone in Europe.
About a week later he called me to tell me that he was having trouble shipping the front wheel to the other auction winner ( something about customs) and wanted to know if i was still interested.
I ended up getting the front wheel for $200 because the seller stated that he had to refund the purchase price to the winner in Europe.
Now here's the best part. I ended up selling my stock 3 spoke wheels for $600 on Ebay and the rotors I bought from the guy for $100.
So I ended up making $380 to put a set of Marchesinis on my Monster.
Oh, and if that wasn't cool enough, I took second place that weekend at the Monster Challenge in NYC and got a gift certificate from DNA which I used to buy all new bearings and have my tires mounted and balanced.

Bar-end mirrors; you can get CRG knock-offs for about $35 shipped on eBay if you spend time looking around. Amazon has them too.

Ok: Reflector Removal = Free
Comfy Grips = $12-20 (If you don't like yours)
Look up coring stock exhaust - you can have the sound to go with those pipes. It requires more labor than money, for sure.

Luckily, the previous owner had already cored the exhaust, opened up the airbox, and rejetted it. Though by the looks of my plugs, I think it's running way too rich, so I'll have to readdress that issue....
I've got most of the reflectors off already, just have the ones on the fork legs to go. Been having some issues with my KTM, so I haven't had that much time to work on the Duc lately.
I'm looking at going with dual headlights. Aztec's set up is overpriced IMHO, and the Dominator set up looks decent, and priced well at $150. Just had to fork over a ton of money for my kid's summer camp, so I'll either have to wait on the duals, or try to find something that will work at the local autoparts store, like drving lights (a la the Duc Duals set up)....
I dunno

Yeah, I ordered a new chain last week, it's in far worse shape than can be seen in the pics. Got new sprockets too, as the rear looked a little worn....

I love that stripe, I wonder if I could get a gun-metal flat gray color for my dark S2R.

They are Parts Unlimited number 2060-0095, they list at $10.95 ea.
They are 7443 LED replacement bulbs. The PU ones are decent, but you can get better ones on Feebay, like these.....
