If I was in the market for a brand new bike, and it needed to be capable on spirited weekend rides with a bonus if it was good around town, I would either buy the new BMW S1000R when it comes out next March, or the KTM Superduke 1290. What do you mean "S1000R next March"? I've got 1,000 miles on mine that I picked up in June.

I spent a good amount of time on the 675R this summer and I have to say it's a pretty amazing bike... amazing to the point of possibly being too good and hence a bit invisible.  It's light, nimble, really nice spread of power, and not bad on comfort... but it doenst make me fall in love with it.  And there is also the fact that the RSV4, either used or new, is within spitting distance of the price.

The only main drawbacks that I've seen said about the RSV4 is the service, plastic tanks and the really high fuel consumption... they made it a bit better for the 2013's with a slightly bigger tank and modified fueling but I read stories that the new fueling isnt as smooth as the old one.  That V4 sound is pure sex though and everyone says that the electronics are perfect.  I never rode it, only sat on it, and it was pretty cramped for me... I'm about 6' tall.

I really want to try out that 899 and I'm pretty tempted by it too.  That being said, I'm going to wait a bit and see if I can pick one up in a year or so at a discount.  I think it'll probably be an amazing bike but I think the price is bit high for what you are getting.

I just realized that I didnt answer any of your questions haha.  I'm in the camp of having one bike at a time normally, but with the caveat of possibly a trackbike.  I barely get time to ride my bike right now and I know that if I got a second it would just get even worse.  I say sell the monster and get the SBK because you dont seem to put on that many miles... and might as well make the miles you do put on a bit more fun.  List the S2R, see what the market is going to accept it for and decide after that.

If I had to get another bike that wasn't a cruiser, I think I would have to go with the 1290 Super Duke.  I rode one at a demo day last weekend and it's absolutely stunning in every way.  It's much more comfortable riding position than my monster, or any Ducati I've ever ridden and for that matter I even found it more comfy than the 1190 Adventure.  The suspension was perfect, the steel trellis frame rode like a steel trellis frame and when you hit the throttle....

In addition to the motor, it also has some of the same electronic goodies other track bikes have like lean angle sensors and ride modes.  Just from the 20 minute ride, I could definitely see it being very easy to ride in all day so touring is an option (though I doubt there are many luggage options) and it had 3 way adjustable suspension front and back so you could easily run a track day or two if you felt inclined. 

That being said, I got on my S2R 800 to ride home from the demo and was still mad in love, so YMMV.

At this point, based on insurance quotes for all the bikes I'm interested in, I'd have to say that the RSV4 is unfortunately out of the picture. It's literally $1000 more than the 899 or 675R. I've sat on the S1000R, and just couldn't get into it to be honest.

Also, it seems that my wife is now refusing to let me sell the S2R... so I guess it's 2 bikes for me. Boo Hoo.. 

In regards to "perfection"... that's kinda what I'm looking for. I have my bike that has "personality" and "temperament," and could really go for something that is a little more precise, and requires a bit less muscling around to ride in a spirited manner.
