What is the purpose of the rod connecting the rear caliper to the engine case on Duck Stu's bike?

The Idea has been around for a while. It even works on drum brakes.

Like a top??  You mean the rotation of the rotor would cause the caliper to move over time?

Yea, Like as soon as you stepped on the brake. The caliper or brake shoe would grab hold of the spinning disk and start spinning too. That would result in the brake line or cable twisting into a knot and breaking.
