Hi,
I am not sure if i have a clogged breather, too much oil, or if it something else, but i believe that my oil pressure is too high.  Does anyone know what the range should be on this engine.

I have a manual gauge and different cover, so the i understand how to read the site glass.  I had one roadside emergency situation where i dumped some oil back in to get back home that was too much and immediately drained it, but fear i may have damaged something already.

Thanks.

I am trying not to poison the well as I haven't had much luck finding any specs anywhere on the ol' interweb.  I retrofitted the gauge and exceeded its capacity.  I am not sure though what the normal pressure range is for these engines.  I will let you know what my gauge was reading once I get some responses from others that may have these engines.  Although unfortunately most with these engines don't run analog gauges or monitor oil pressure limits.

Well, I wouldn't start with less than 100 psi capacity on an oil pressure gauge for any Ducati.

From memory, 50-60 psi seems about the norm not to far off of idle.

Speeddog mentioned ~100psi (I guess at high revs)

S2R1000 manual says:

Warm engine
(Minimum oil temperature = 80°C)

1100 to 1300 rpm
greater than 0.8 bar

3500 to 4000 rpm
greater than 4 bar

The maximum pressure must
never exceed 6.0 bar.

I'd like to see more than 0.8 bar at idle.
Most Ducs specify 1.5 bar or so.

cold they go quite high.  my gauge goes to 100 psi / 7 bar and i've seen 2001 onward bikes go over that cold.  comes down a lot when they get hot, but if it shit the nest with a dead cold engine i could see that happening.

All great input thank you.

So, i had a 100 psi gauge.  It was typical to see 60 at startup and up to 80 at 3K.  It was no conducive at speed for observation so i cant speak much to higher revs.  Once the engine was warm it would typically drop to 40psi at idle.  I never recall over revving the engine, but quite possible.  I recall noticing the gauge would not rest at zero and realizing that i probably exceeding its limitations.  It would appear that i got somewhere around 120psi just upon observation of the needle offset.  The gauge eventually rattled loose an anti vibration screw (ironically) and then proceeded to dump about 1.5 quarts into the previously dry clutch.  I made a hasty roadside repair to get home.  Once home i found that i overfilled the case in my repair and then drained to the approprite level.  The ride back home was only about ten miles.  The oil spill was a disaster and i am still trying to clean it up all over the engine.  However, it seems like there is still oil weeping around the engine case.  I know that i was not very skilled with the three bond goo when i put it back on and probably just did a shitty job.  I just pulled off the crankcase breather and it looks fine.  I still "feel" like i am running with too much pressure and just wasnt sure what it should be.  Thanks for all the input.  I thought there would be more information readily available but it appears nobody has any data for the m1100 DS engines.

Official Figures. from M1100 Manual

Engine temp = 80C
1100 to 1300rpm = >0.8 bar
3500 to 4000rpm = >4 bar
Maximum pressure should NEVER exceed 6.0 bar

So far three of us told you 4-6 bar hot.  Brad Black added his experience when cold oil pressure can reach much higher on start up.  There is no spec for Clean the suspect area real well, run and observe.  Still can't tell?  clean again, spray area with aerosol foot powder. run and observe.  The stain will lead you to the leak
