Poor Ducati, I have the worst luck

So, after 75,000 miles I put a 695 engine in to replace the 620, and this happens.

There must be something in the air... my engine finally gave up the ghost, after a few more miles of riding though.
Sorry about the luck. So what happened exactly? Chain just broke?

Bummer to hear about your bike...
The clip holding the linkage together came apart. I'm kicking myself a bit for trusting a local mechanic to put on this last chain. Chain was only a few thousand miles old.
I was really hoping to get more than 500 miles on the new engine...

Look on the bright side: You have a motorcycle to fix.

Crankcase can be welded, new/used alternator cover can be bought.
Not clear from the pics exactly what was broken....

Sadly A weld and a cover are not going to get it done, it needs new cases. Nichols Sport Bike are doing everything they can to get me back on the road for as little as possible. I'll let you know what the solution ends up being.

Sorry to hear about your issue. So just to be clear, it was a clip style link right?
If so you should smack the mechanic for being an idiot. Clip links are only good in one place....Bicycle chains.
I'll never use anything but a rivet link specifically for this reason.

Yep, it was a clip and I plan on never using clips or my local mechanic again.

With the help of some cool people here on the board, and some luck, I hope to get her back on the road. Not sure when, but hopefully before the end of the year.

Sorry to read this but in defense of clip style links my Duc has 70K on it, most all of them with the clip style.

I'm sure if the clips are installed properly they can be fine... But I'm sure everyone will forgive me if I tend to be a bit overly cautious from here on... =)
