Arrested for DUI...

My band played a show last night at a bar right outside of Boston, we went on first at 9pm and were finished by 10. I always considered it rude to play your set + leave without seeing the other bands, so I stuck around + had a few beers. This exact night has happened countless times without incident, but I guess I had it coming sooner or later.  :-\

[drink] [drink] [drink]    2 beers turned into 6 or 7, and I stupidly decided to drive home.  [roll] I made a wrong turn onto a main street, tried to make a U-turn, and it was too wide. My car hit the curb + bent the rim/blew out the tire. The  [leo] were there in seconds + immediately could tell that I had been drinking, so they took me in. The cop was actually a really nice guy + felt bad for me. He was just doing his job...

-To say I'm bummed out is an understatement. Crushed, humiliated, and horrified is more like it. I did some stupid things when I was younger (we all have) including various brushes with the law, but I now feel like I have "arrived" in life. I have an awesome job, an awesome aparment in the city, a beautiful girlfriend, and a beautiful bike I can't ride until further notice. Thinking about the possibility (probability) of losing the job and not being able to ride for a LONG TIME just puts me in an awful, awful place mentally.

I might even have to sell the bike to pay for legal fees + get another one down the road, we'll see.  :-[ :'(

-I'm not looking for any sympathy at all. It's my own doing, and it is what it is. All I'm saying is to BE CAREFUL when driving after a few drinks. Even getting pulled over so a cop can give you a friendly heads up that your tail light is out can turn into a DUI. It can happen to ANYONE. Hopefully I can be an example to you guys as far as what the repercussions are for getting caught drinking and driving. I'll post up here as the book gets thrown at me...  Just wanted to share my newest "life speedbump"...   :-\

I'll be fine eventually, just give me a year or 2...  :-\

Sorry to hear about the position you wound up in.

Before my move to Japan I had done the same thing many times.  Drove home after a night of drinking, not obliterated drunk but 5 beers or so over a 5 hour timeframe, never even thought about it.

Now here in Japan with the DUI level so much lower and the penalties so much higher I just take a cab.  No matter what.

Good luck and at least nobody was hurt

Yeah, I wish that was my train of thought last night, but what's done is done I guess.

In retrospect it could have been a lot worse. I'm glad nobody else was involved as well. I'm desparately trying to spin this as a good thing; a wake-up call of sorts. Sh!t happens, right? Hopefully I'll be a better + more responsible person because of it. I can't promise that hooligan behavior on my Monster won't happen from time to time in the future though..   ;)

-That is if I'm not forced to part ways with it...  :-\

Oh man!!   I'm sure many most of us can identify with you.  You start out with the best of intentions and then it all goes downhill from there.  It's not a drunken party night or anything like that.....and you figure you can just sneak home .....no prob.....and then...... [leo]

Why are we such slow learners sometimes?

I doubt this is going to be pretty.    ???  Not that I condone driving under the influence...but lawyer up...and good luck.

Sorry to hear about your incident.

How is your record? Driving record?

Get yourself an attorney.

Should cost you between 1500-2000$.

If you have a clean record, you will get a good deal from a plea with your attorney.

Be glad you just hit a curb and not a person.

Get a lawyer.
Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

Do you guys have a "driving license for work only" type deal? ie - you can drive, but only to get to, and go home from work.

Z...
What could possibly go wrong?

Howie

Sorry to hear...been there done that in my earlier years.  The big difference is I was lucky enough to not get caught and managed not to have an accident.  Like the others said, get a lawyer.  Since it sounds like you learned your lesson, good luck!

we have that here in Ohio.

they give you orange plates (i.e. party plates as they are called)

However, this doesn't help him in Boston

PM me poster, I might be able to help you with a local attorney, the company I work for is based in Boston, and I have a few connections there. Who knows, might get lucky.

Sorry to hear about this. Take responsibility for your actions and move forward. You risked not only your own life, but the lives of others.

Why not just make the conscious decision to NEVER drink and drive again? Not even after one beer. Then one beer will never turn into 6.

Then you will never have to go through this again.  :-\

not sorry to hear this.
You made the decision to drive drunk-your choice no one elses.
No one should even consider drinking and driving.
No sympathy for you.
I am a heartless bastard but supposing you had hit someone and that someone was my wife and kids............You would not be safe anywhere on this planet.
Learn from this.

Everyone makes mistakes...we should be careful to throw stones...I am by no means justifing the actions, just that everyone makes them, and this one only hurt the accused.
Having said that...make sure to get an attorney and you should have no fears of losing your current job, even if it has a clearance involved.
Be safe and good luck.

I drive truck for a living.
If I blow 0.04 I am done.

+1

In NY if I get a DWI in my own car I lose my license for a year. (I have a CDL)

It is not worth two beers to jeopardize my livelyhood.

That is what cabs and DD's are for.
