Last week I purchased a paid of bicycle bib tights from a company that I've been buying bike parts from for years.

As part of the days promotion, if you spent 99 dollars or more you got an electronic gift card for 25 dollars off another purchase.

I planned to use it towards a trunk rack for the mini.

Two days later I recieve my pants and imstantly discover I mistakenly ordered the pair w/o the pad. I then call thier customer service and tell them of my mistake.

they give me a return auth#. no problem. I then ask the guy if I can then place an order with him to get the pants with the pad that origionally wanted and the rack. he says no problem then the call gets dissconnected.

No biggie, I'm already online and at their website, so I order the correct pair (paying 10 dollars more for the pad) and I order the rack and add the gift card code numbers to the order form where they later discount the 25 bucks from that order.

I then paid to send the origional pants back. (my mistake so I gladly ate the cost)

Two days later I get what I ordered, no problem. (other than two flats on Saturdays ride   >:( )

So today I'm on their website checking my refund status, and the live chat guy says the refund will be processed tomorrow, but they will take out 25 dollars from the credit because I returned the pants, even though I purchased the more expensive version of the exact same item two days later to correct my mistake.

I did not return the pants after having been given a 25 dollar e/card just to get a free card. The position they insuate I took.

I went round and round with him online and on the phone and he says regardless of the fact that I reordered a more expensive version of the same item I ordered by mistake, that technically meant I lost the 25 dollar gift card and that he understands my frustration, but them is the rules.

I think it's bad form and that if they were going to cancel the 25 dollar card, it should have never been applied to my last purchase, and that I should have been informed if that was the case.

anywhoo.... they are on my no buy list

I asked my wife in the other room if you were wrong. She asked if you were a Man and I said yes. She then said of course he's wrong. But then I explained about the gift card and the returning of the stuff and now she says you are right, but you did it wrong.

Grampa

If it were a brick and mortar store to have asked for the gift card back when making an exchange would have been ludicrous. Because it was an online purchase, it changes the dynamic a bit, but it was really nothing but an exchange.

IMO you are right.  Worth pursuing?  Up to you.  I would write them a letter explaining why I will no longer do business with them and call it done.

Popeye the Sailor

Yes, men buying spandex shorts is always wrong.

Howie has it right-if they care, they'll fix it after receiving the letter. If not, make the beast with two backs 'em-I'm happy to vote with my dollars.

They made it clear on the phone that losing my business did not matter.

Good reason to buy local if there's a decent option.

Sorry I tried to read the story but I could not get much further than "Bicycle Bib Pants" before my imagination got the better part of me.  Please tell me they are not lycra so I can get this image out of my head.   :P

Just got a call from them.... We're sorry, you'll get a full refund.

I'm still pissed about the shitty treatment from yesterday.
