Who knows what was going on in Bernard's day. We know it's one of if not 'the' dirtiest sportts out there and Armstrong was/is a make the beast with two backsing liar.

ya know, honestly i've never had a problem with it.  if they wanna do that
to their bodies, i'll enjoy the show.  what i have a problem with is the finger
pointing.  you're right, there's no evidence that BH was doping, or merckx, or
anquetil, but i'd bet all of them were doing whatever was in vogue at the
time.

Dirty, sure. Dirtiest? I'm not convinced. Look at the other more popular sports like NFL, MLB, FIFA and even college sports that have been rife with cheating, scandal and controversy for years. 

IMHO, the less popular and (until Armstrong) relatively obscure sport of cycling has become an easy target where we can direct our righteous indignation so we can then return to our regularly scheduled sports programming with less guilt.

Armstrong was a cheat, no doubt. But then again, so was everyone else who shared the podium with him. Not saying that makes it right, just that the net should have been cast much wider.

True to a degree, but he's still a liar. It did cost him $75mil, so I guess he paid his dues.

All these years, I thought Hinault's nickname "The Badger" was because of his tenacity and grit, both of which he had in abundance. It turns out the nickname was because he would frequently wear a sweatband that made his hair stand up and gave him the overall appearance of a shaving brush. 

One of my all time favorite racers, even though I still don't buy his line that he was being a loyal teammate to LeMond in 1986 - but the battle between the two and the split in La Vie Claire did make for one of the most exciting Tours in history.
