996 Compatibility with a Monster?

How comparable (if at all) would a 2001 996 be with an early M900?

Will the front forks fit?
Is it possible to fit the rear swingarm?
Are the wheels compatible?

I have an opportunity to buy a wrecked 996 (cosmetic fairing damage) and would like to know what would be useable on a forth coming custom job I'm planing on my '95 M900

Forks can be made to fit with shims on the lower triples, and either an aftermarket 53mm triple or bore out the existing one.
They may be a bit long if you're using regular handlebars.

996 swingarm can be made to fit, but it's a large project.

You would need to use the 996 fork, front wheel, axle and calipers as a set, as they're different from the '95 Monster stuff.

The cases are very different.

I think I'd use the 996 cases with your 900 internals if the stud spacing was the same.

AFAIK, SBK triples will not fit at all, and the offset isn't correct for a Monster anyway.

You can use your Monster lower triple 'as is', you'll just need a shim to adapt the 53mm diameter leg to the 54mm diameter triple.
The upper triple would need to be replaced with an aftermarket triple that has 53mm holes, or you can get your existing upper triple bored out to 53mm.

If you're planning to use regular handlebars, you'll need to use the Monster brake line, or get one like it made.

To allow fitment of the SBK swingarm, the M900 crankcases need to be machined narrower in the pivot area, and the bearings replaced with solid spacers.
Then the rear part of the Monster frame would have to be extensively modified to allow fitment of the SBK shock/pushrod/rocker assembly.
The M900 rear header will not work as-is with the SBK swingarm, so something custom is necessary there.

You could install the SBK motor/swingarm/suspension in your M900 frame.
You would still need to modify the frame for the SBK suspension, and some other mods to provide mounts and such for the SBK motor bits (radiator, battery, coolant tank, ECU, etc.).
The gas tank very likely won't clear the rear cylinder head, easiest route would be S4 or S4R tank, although then you'd need a late-model seat.
I suspect there's some frame crossmembers and other items that would need to be altered.
A bit of work to attach a muffler to the SBK exhaust, as the under-tail cans won't fit, unless you really mod the tail of the frame to suit.
SBK wiring harness will need a bit of work to be made to fit.
Basically, a big heap of work to make an S4R.

Stud spacing of 996 is wider than M900, so none of the top end parts will fit.

If the 996 has cosmetic damage only, why not just strip the fairings, put a single round headlight on it and ride it as is?  Chassis is much better than an early Monster anyways...
