Wheel Fatigue???

This may seem like a stupid question!  [roll]

I have a spare set of wheels that look fine and in great condition from a 2001 M600 that have near new rubber on them, the wheels themselves came off a bike with 80,000 kms on it.  I have a 2000 M400 with 20,000 kms on the clock in need of new rubber.

So, is it ok just to swap the wheels or should I go the extra effort and swap the rubber? I guess my real question is do the wheels suffer unseen stress or fatigue? (Assuming both sets of wheels have been treated well).

I've not seen any mileage related fatigue on wheels, other than the bearings and cush drives.

If the bearing feel smooth on the 2001 M600 wheels when turning then by hand, the cush drives are fit for service, and they hold air reliably (no issues with tire bead seal or valve stem seal)... run 'em.

The biggest threat I've seen to wheels is owners not attending to tire inflation pressure.
Tends to make them less round than they were originally.

Cheers SD,

I usually change the bearings any time the wheel is off, it's cheap and quick to do and the cush drives are good. Tire pressure have held well the entire time I've had the wheels stored!

Might just chuck 'em on  [thumbsup]

How old are the tires and how many miles on them?
