Help me ID these calipers?

Hey all.

I recently learned that there are multiple flavors of 2-pad, 4-piston, 65mm cast Brembo OEM calipers.  I bought some for use on my CBX, but they turned out to be just a little bit too wide.  My machinist tracked down another set that gave him the clearance he needed, and I'd like to figure out what they're from so I can be confident ordering stuff like rebuild kits and replacement pads.

The handheld one in the foreground is the one that was a bit too wide.  The eBay seller said it's from an early superbike, like a 916.  The ones actually on the bike are supposedly from "some Monster".

I've spent a lot of time hunting for photos of Monster and other Ducati front wheels & calipers to try to figure this out, but no luck.  Everything I find has that Brembo logo above the word "brembo".  If anyone has some info or insight about the calipers on my bike, or generally about the different types of 65mm caliper, I would love to hear it.

Thanks!

Howie

Go here  http://www.tawperformance.com/  download the catalog, and you might find a match.  Good luck, rebuild kits are quickly becoming history.

Those are often called 996 calipers - four pistons, two pads.

Works well with anything from a 16mm coffin master to new radial masters.

Next step up is 999 type calipers - four pistons, four pads.

Those are the ones in the foreground.  I want to know about the ones in the background, which are supposedly from a Monster 750 or 900 from the early 2000's.

brad black

they're both 65mm mount spacing 2 pin calipers, so should theoretically be the same thing.

Didn't know Yoyodyne was handling Brembo again.  Follow Stopintime's link.  If you can't match by photo call Fred, he can probably help you.

That's exactly what I thought, but as you can see, the casting looks a bit different, and according to my machinist, the ones on my bike are about 2mm narrower.  It doesn't mean that stuff like pads and seals are different, but I want to be sure.  I'll check if they're 34/30mm pistons.

That caliper can be found on the MotoGuzzi Norge as original equipment.

WOW.  [clap]

I found a bunch of Norge pics, and it really looks like you are right.  [bow_down]

I'll hit my local M-G dealer for info.

I called the local Moto Guzzi dealer, who put me in touch with the local Brembo distributor.  Here's what he had to say:

QuoteThese are oem calipers that are used on host of Italian bikes such as the Guzzi's, Aprilia's and Ducati's.

I will try and find the original part #.

I should warn you that revision kits are not easy to source and are often so expensive that you are often better off buying new calipers that already come with pads in them.
"Revision kit" is Brembo-speak for a rebuild kit with the O-rings, seals, and pistons.

Here's what he had to say:

QuoteLooks these are 20785 series calipers, please check attachment. They sell for about $395 per cailper including pad and no revision kits are available for them.

BTW, the guy helping me out is Marco at Eurocorsa - very good guy.

While getting rebuild kits for brembo brakse is also problematic in the UK I'm sure they were available through KTM badged kits, possibly not common in the US (and I cant find any useful links at the moment) but this is where many of the guys over here who were looking for brembo parts found theirs.

Found a couple.
