Clean then POR-15. No pics of the undercoating-I'm sure you're all heartbroken.

Started getting the rear quarter cleaned up:

Fixed the cord on the (untested and untried) plasma cutter I had picked up some months ago and figured I'd see if I could manage anything workmanlike.

Cut out the piece I need from the replacement fender:

Well hell-almost like I know what I'm doing.  laughingdp

Trimmed and tacked. Need to do the other side, too.

You say that like I have any clue what I'm doing. Look at the corner gap in the back-it's huge.

Stupid learning curve.

I've seen worse.

I figure not terrible for a first time. It's almost like I can be taught.

The shop with my Chrysler called. They were aligning the doors prior to rocker replacement, as they told me this is the proper way to make sure everything is where it should be.

One of those doors lines up perfect.....if the car is in the air. The gap widens when it's back on the ground.

I guess the serious frame rot is also in the passenger side front. I'm hoping it's in the stub frame that protrudes from the unibody shell, as I have a spare. I wrote and asked for more info which I expect to see tomorrow.

In the meantime I'll expect the worst and continue to guzzle whiskey. Mostly, I'm ready for the day to be over.

I've seen cars that weren't rotted move like that either when in the air or on the ground. I've seen doors that lined up and when the guy climbed in to start welding the car moved. We used to have to add a brace in the door opening when doing Porsches.

Without a rocker in place there's nothing to keep the car from bending.

Just sayin'.

It sounds like the shop has more experience with those old beasts than I do though. Undecided
