Can't see if you mounted it to the handle bar or elsewhere ?

I have the same mount for my 1100 but the fit was tight on the bar. I'm needing an adapter for my unused mirror mount hole.

any problems with mounting directly in the wind? (above the fly screen)

I want to get a ram mount for my phone but i worry about direct exposure to wind/bugs/etc... i don't run even a fly screen.

Mounted to the handle bar. Fits good on my 696.

As for being out in the wind, had it up to 85 yesterday on the ride home for about half an hour in blustery winds and no issues. Have been using this same mount for over 30k miles and never once has my phone slipped at all. Very pleased. Taken my Vstrom down many gravel roads as well, so bumps don't disturb the phone either.

I'm using the ram mount that replaces one of the handlebar clamp screws and the spring loaded phone cradle. This set up is rock solid. I've had it up to 105 and it didn't so much as vibrate. The same cannot be said of the x-grip mount like you have.  In my experience, that thing vibrated like crazy (even at idle) and wouldn't stay positioned like I wanted. My x-grip was a piece of junk. Maybe I had a defective mount.
