That was one of the first things I ever took off of my bike. It looks stupid and I hate it. Sorry, got mad there for a second. Why put that stubby little guy on there? Once you do the tail chop all the water spray from rain riding will end up in your butt crack anyway.

Protect the shock.

Yep. Keep filth and grit off that shock shaft to protect it and the seal.

anyone have more pics of this installed on a bike?  I'd like something to protect the shock, I've been running no rear hugger for a while now.  I was scoping out the carbonworld.de shorty hugger too.  I believe either of these you would need to drill an extra hole or two if the bolt patterns don't line up..

If I'd have to drill either way, I prefer the look of the Carbonworld style hugger. (better price too, and available from Monsterparts)

There's a thread around here somewhere, someone modded the CW hugger to fit their <01 Monster. Didn't seem to difficult but he had to add a bracket in addition to drilling, and I wonder if it looks janky up close.

I prefer the look of no hugger also, like many others, but I dislike how filthy the shock, underside of seat, the motor, etc gets because of it.

Sketch the shape you want on your stock hugger lightly in chalk or pencil then cut with a dremel, sand the edge to get the shape perfect then sharpie on the edge. Comes out great and it's easy to do plus stock rear huggers are cheap on ebay. Here's how mine came out.

That looks nice.  I might consider modding my existing toward that shape.  I ride all weather, so without at least some version of a hugger my shock takes a lot of abuse.

Akrapovic on the Duke. Wish they made one for the Monster as the thickness of this one is twice the Carbon World one on my Monster.

They're all in the 'Power of Orange' thread, but since you asked.
