2007 1100ds fast idle problem

 I have a 2007 1100ds engine with the fast idle lever on the left handlebar. The problem is that when riding it would occasionally activate itself enough to cause serious issues. This happened when down shifting on a freeway exit ramp resulting in a long slide.
Has this happened to anyone else, and can it be corrected? I am about to install a Throttlemeister to use as a fast idle device.

how does it activate itself? Are you sure it isnt just bad routing of the cable or a vacuum hose leak?

 It appears that engine vibration causes the fast idle cam to rotate to a position that keeps the throttle cam from closing. When this happened while cruising along at 60 or so a snap of the throttle would return it to its proper position.

If the cable is too tight it will activate when you turn the handle bar to the left. Usually this happens if the fast idle is super tight with the idle pulled in to increase idle.

Ideally even with the fast idle level pulled in to increase idle speed the idle should not move when the handle bar is turned. If it does, there can be a serious danger.

I used to purposely set it high so I could use it as a cruise control on streets, but I made sure it would only activate with the idle lever pulled. Not when it was in the default position. Are you the original owner? Asking only because some prior owner may have tinkered with it like I did and screwed something up.

I've never had it stuck before like you mention. Could it be the cable is somehow kinked inside the assembly? From what I remember there is a race that the cable sits in.

 the engine is from a 2007 Multustrada 1100ds, it resides in my Bimota and the controls are standard Ducati from the 07-08 period.
This happened when riding in a straight line with slack in the cable.

adjust the mechanism free play at the throttle bodies.

Disconnect it until it's cold enough to need it.

It seems to turn out that there was too much slack at the end of the cable where it connects to the hrottle body. After unscrewing the adjuster all of the was and removing all of the free play of the cable at the throttle body, the cam could no longer move. Then I adjusted the threaded bit to allow the cam to move a little and that seems to have taken care of the issue.
I don't understand it either, so don't ask me for elaboration!

I'm often wrong...but wasn't 2004 the last year that the (manual) fast idle lever was used, on the 1000DS engine?  I thought the 2005 and onwards went to closed-loop (automated) systems for cold starts?

spike was talking about his bimota db5 or something like that, without being clear, which was confusing everyone as it's a non ducati fitment which didn't happen in any 2007 ducati model.
