1100S : Removing the rod between the subframe and the engine

I'm looking for advice, to try and ensure I don't beak anything with my next mod.  I've just ordered the Rizoma Passenger Peg Kit (PE576b).  To install it I need to remove and replace the rod that passes through the subframe and engine, essentially the partner to the one to one you swap for frame sliders.  I'm guessing that the engine may shift, in the frame, when this comes out.  I'm guessing the best approach would be to put a jack, or similar, under the engine first.

The rod I am talking about is the one labelled 13, in this diagram:

It is the one just in from of the rear brake reservoir:

I'm not the expert, but I think a jack is useful.

Maybe also use the new rod to push the old out....

The rod is never completely removed. Re torque the bolts to the the factory spec.

The jack shouldn't be a problem.  Looking at the two diagrams I wonder if the rod (both OEM and Rizoma replacement) has one nut permanently attached, in which case OEM will need to come out before the new one goes in.  I'll have a look when the kit arrives.

Generally, nuts thread on to studs and bolts and are not permanently attached.

Sorry about the terminology, I'm not really mechanically minded, hence all the questions here.  I've just been looking at the Parts List and Workshop Manual and I think Ductai describes my 'rod' as a 'Special Screw'.  It is the same as the one that goes through the main frame and engine so perhaps somebody with a last generation Monster (695, 795, 1100) could chip in, from their experience of putting on frame sliders.

I looked up the Torque settings for that part and, assuming I am reading things correctly, it needs to be 60Nm (+/-5Nm), with grease:

Not that I trust Rizoma instructions, Ducati diagrams OR my eyes 100%, but it looks like the stock shaft/"special screw" has the attached nut (if it IS attached) on the left side and the Rizoma shaft on the right side...

If that's the case, pushing the old out while inserting the new is still the plan.

I guess my point is that if the hex is attached it's a bolt not a rod or stud.

Silly technicality probably

I hadn't noticed that, well done.  It was probably done that way on purpose.  It should make things easier.  Now I have to wait for the parts to arrive and enough time to do the job.

Thanks everybody.  The instal went easily (Pics in my How To thread: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=70929.0).  Supporting the engine worked a charm and the rod (bolt, whatever!) came out easily.
