tank wont latch shut

First of all, i tried searching. I found posts about rubbing tanks etc, but nothing on latches. My plastic 620 tank has some wear marks from the ignition housing not bad but there. I tried to latch the tank ( i got it with the tank unlatched ) and doesnt even come close to latching correctly. So i loosened the hinge that bolts the tank to the frame, slid it all the way back and still not close.  The cam mechanism wont even pass the ignition housing. Any ideas?

figured it out. Apparantly this is a huge problem.  Or an excuse to get a carbon tank
