Hey
I rode the evo today as suddenly from nowhere i wasn't able to shift down.
Up to that point it was working fine. It goes up to sixth gear and you can shift into fifth but not any further.  After that the gearlever feels like it is at the bottom with no space left downwards. After stoping and turning off and pushing the bike forward and backward and pulling the lever you can get it somehow into first. Ideas?
Gonna take it to the shop tomorrow.

Clutch working?

If it were me, I would not re-start it until I removed the cover and inspected the springs.

Pic to follow shortly.

Items 20 and 27 (springs) have been known to fail. The pieces may/may not fall down into the bottom of the sump without causing damage.

Note: The only pic I had was one in which the flywheel holder was installed. Do not let that cause any confusion.

If the spring(s) are not broken, you will have gained access to inspect the rest of the mechanism.

As far as i can judge the clutch seems to work, atleast when i pull the handle in fifth gear it does disengage. Though the clutch was replaced on warranty. But that was several thousand km ago (it has now 16000km (about 10000miles)). The thing with the spring sounds reasonable, since i was riding for another 60 miles afterwards i just hope it didn t do any damage.
Well. We will find out soon. Thanks for the replies.

Something similar happened to me.  Twice.

I concur with the advice to remove the alternator cover and inspect the linkage and it's adjustment.

You might need to remove the flywheel for complete inspection or adjustment.

The basic Ducati shift linkage has been the same for years across all models, but more recently there is a "reinforcing plate" to add tension and help prevent the adjuster from moving with repeated use and/or hard technique.  Spring breakage is also common, but I have not experience that.

Some good background from an old thread of mine: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=46039.0
