Thanks again for the great insight.
I will be going in my SUV.
There is a Costco 1/2 a mile from the dealer and on Saturdays the drivers there are out of control.

So the Metuchen Dealer wants $130 to change the front Sprocket and $200 to to the Bar change (labor only, parts extra),  seems a bit much to me. Also they can't get me in for 2 weeks.
Should I attempt to do these myself or try a non-ducati mechanic?

Seems a bit high to me. Did you try Ferracci?

Just my $0.02, but a true Ducati shop with total familiarity might be a better bet. The sprocket looks easy but you need a special tool to re-adadjust the chain. Changing the bar requires drilling to do properly and some careful cable and line routing.

How mechanical are you? I leave this stuff to my dealer as I can't be bothered. He'd be closer to $200 for both items and it'd be done right. In fact..., it was.  Wink You should really be there when they drill the bar to get the controls/mirrors exactly where you want them.

The guy I talked to in the Metuchen dealership did not seem too knowledgeable.
I will call Feracci today as well, thou they are a little harder to get to for me.
I think I will pay the little extra money and get it done right, don't want to have a problem while riding far from home.

Good luck! Wish I had a name to give you but it's been eons since I did business there. Another forum member whose wife rides a 696 picked up a V7 there last year IIRC and has had no complaints I can recall. He might not pick up on this thread though...

What are you riding? With the 796's and with the controls adjusted to my liking, there is ~ 1 cm clearance with the tank cover on both sides. If the stops were readjusted at all, I doubt more than 1 - 2 mm.

Bear in mind that a 796 has the ~ 20mm taller stock riser which subsequently appeared on the 2012(?) and later EVO's.

I'm fine with them as is. At least one side usually has a fairly full view and they are aerodynamically very quiet.

It's important to have them adjusted correctly. Carlos in Panama mentioned using a straight edge like a yard stick to set them 90 degrees across the bike vs the direction of travel. Not a fan of bar-ends unless there's no other good option.

Numb? Maybe the 14T will help with that when you are riding slow around town. I try to keep the revs over 4,000. By 4,500 - 5,000 the engine is pretty smooth. 3,000 RPM under load will make your hands numb too. Try not to lug it.  Wink

Had to buy those skins because I had one of these.  Cheesy License plate also reads "PANTAH". http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/275067-1/Pantah-600-SL.jpg

The way my bar and switches/levers are adjusted, the clearance between them and the tank skin is ~ 1 cm. Just measured for you. From the base of the locknut on the stop to the end of the bolt is 7mm. Maybe compare that with yours?
