Valve Adjust/New Collets question

So when doing a valve adjust yesterday, when I pulled the collets out of the Vert/Intake valve one was broken. No big deal, found the only open Duc dealer and got some new ones. The Lt. Synder manual says that the new collets will add .001" to the clearances since they are not bedded in yet. Which I verified when remeasuring.

Now my question is, if they are going bed themselves in do I just leave it as is? Or do I now remeasure with the new collets installed and install new shims to get the recommended gaps?

Thanks
-John

Bike is 08 S2R 1000 @ 11k miles

They will bed in very quickly.

I'd leave them as is as long as you don't have an interference fit on the closer.

Spend money on some MBP collets and never worry about this again. These can be reused for a VERY long time. I'm sure the MBP collets bed in as well but since you never have to replace them and since they are one directional, all valve adjustments in the future will be more precise. Just make sure you keep them on the same valve stem and this becomes a non issue.

I've been using them for about 10 years now and they are great.

emsduc.com sells them.

One more thing to note. Since your collet deformation becomes a non issue. your adjustments stay in spec slightly longer than the usual interval once the bike breaks in (12k - 15k mile range)
