NFL fever and Brett Favre

He Man

I do not like the greenbay packers, I dont hate them, but I would never favor them in any game (unless its against the cowboys, cause i F***ING HATE TONY ROMO and TO IS A BAG OF TRASH) but Brett Favre is one hell of a guy. When he lost to the Giants back in the playoffs, I felt sorry for him, he really deserve to go and win the superbowl (i was 100% sure they could beat the Patriots), but when he lost to the Giants I knew he was going to have a miserable time trying to decide if he can play 1 more year for that superbowl win, or call it quits. But in March we all found out when he annoucned his retirement.

but then he was going to come back. And before he went to go sign the deal to make a comeback..he changed his mind and stayed retired.

now he wants to be relased from the Packers so he can play on another team. The Packers dont want him to be starting QB, and if he wants that spot, he'll need to fight for it in training camp since the packers are comitted to Aaron Rodgers. At the same time, The packers wont release him, and wont trade him. So wtf?

This man has lived his whole life as a Packers QB. If the packers dont want him as a starting QB, they should atleast grant this hall of fame-er his wish to play football, even if it is for someone else. What right do the Packers have to want to "protect his legacy". Its his own right to do whatever he wants with his life, and if the packers dont want him starting, then he wont be playing football, hell just be sidelined with a clipboard and a mic, which is not what he wants. This man needs to win the superbowl next year so he can retire the right way and go out the way he should. He deserves it, and I know he can do it.

Oh and TO is a pussy. :-*

The packers are more than willing to trade him to any team except their division rivals.  The don't want to release him because they would like to get something for him (future draft pics), but mostly they don't want to see him sign with Chicago or Minnesota.

My personal take on this is that I am sick of hearing about Bret Farve.  I lost most of the respect i had for him by the way he treated Javon Walker, and what little respect i have for him was totally gone the first 2 times he was going to retire.  He also treated Aron Rodgers like shit the past 3 years.

The packers gm & coach were planing a trip out to Bret's home in Louisiana a month after Bret had his crocodile tear press conference announcing his retirement.  The Coach & GM wanted to ask Bret if he had second thoughts about retiring and if he wanted to come back to start, the job was his.  But, Bret said without a doubt he was done.  So, the packers have spent this entire offseason preparing the offense for Aaron Rodgers, all the offensive players have been studying the scheme designed for Rodgers.

With that ^^ situation, do you think the Packers should let Brett Farve come in a few weeks before training camp and be the starter uncontested?  I think it would be stupid to even let Brett compete for the starting role, the starting role should be Rodger's to lose, not compete for.

This is also Rodgers last year under contract, it would be wise for the packers to know what type of QB he really is before they sign him for the years to come.

They way Brett Farve has been strong-arming the packers is wrong, he has every right to change his mind and come back from retirement, but the way he is going about it is wrong.

If'n he agrees to play the/a game for free, or at best minimum wage, I say, go away Brett.

Brett Favre is being selfish.  His wanting to unretire puts the Pack in a tough position, having already committed to Rodgers, and he assured them he was done at the end of last year.  They are right in not releasing him...he's still under contract so why not get something for him (trade) and also assure he doesn't end up playing for a rival in the NFC North...preferably NFC period.  Basically, what Kaveh said!  [cheeky]

Oh yeah...F' THE PACKERS...GO BEARS;D

i think favre is being annoying but no more annoying than any team owner or team.

he unlike most players is making a team look really bad, to get what he wants and i'm all for it.  the whole deal poeple say "honor your contract" or what have you and "man up" is crap in the NFL... afterall the teams say this and say deal with it you signed it, but teams have no problem cutting contracts short or cutting players making that 8 year contract a 2 year one and not "living up to their end" and claiming "well we can do that" what happended to the whole honor your contractr? or telling players to restructure contracts to get less money?

teams are just as conniving as players, so favre should do this just to make the packers organization look bad, and kudos to that, nobody is above a good humiliation, nobody, especially when its deserving.

farve needs to be put out to pasture and kept there.

i cna't stand him. he wasn't a great QB, he was jsut tough.

he didn't get a superbowl ring because he and his team weren't good enough. give it up already!

First I'm not a Packers fan and usually don't root for them but dude are you freaking nuts?
He did win a superbowl ring at SuperBowl 30
On top of that:
Most MVP awards-3
9 Probowls
Most:
Starts-253
Wins-160
TouchDowns-442
Passing Yards-61,655
Completions-5,377
and 63 games with 3 tds or more

How can you say he wasn't a great quarterback?  I've always enjoyed watching him play and if he is not one of the top 3 QB's of all time your smoking crack.

Fixed it.  To not get seriously messed up after that many years in the NFL is way more luck than toughness.

Can't he just go be an announcer or something?   Maybe he felt his records needed more padding with Brady and/or Manning likely to break them.

Yes everyone knows that but why does everyone bring it up like that makes all the other records bunk?
So he threw more interceptions than anyone else, he also threw more touchdowns.

I just don't get the Favre hate over the country.  He's a genuine guy who everyone can tell sincerely  loves the game.  I agree that he has been a little wishy washy on the whole retirement deal but if you watched the interview on Fox news last night he explained that he asked the coach and gm to give him until training camp to make his decision and they wanted it in March.  He  felt that in March he didn't want to come back.

Let's face it.  With Favre the Packers are were a game away from the Super Bowl.  With Aaron Rodgers who knows?

I just don't get how some people think everything he does is gospel.  (not directed at you metallimonster, more towards the fans that rally at the headquarters and such)

And as far as the interception records, that is important.  He had waay more attempts and years playing than Marino.  Marino threw more TDs per game played.  Farve was/is  more of a gunslinger, not a surgeon like Marino, Bradey, Montana, Young, ect...

Favre didn't make his retirement decision until March of last year, a few months after their season ended.  The Packers front office didn't make a decision to go with Rodgers until a month after Favre's press conference.  The Packers had setup a meeting to go and visit Favre in his home in Louisiana and see if he wanted to come back, if he changed his mind.  Favre cancelled the meeting saying he was not coming back, period.

Fast forward a few months and he know wants to force the packers to make him start!  He is using his fan base and leaking info to the media to put pressure on the packers to make him start  [roll] .  I think the only people that should have the decision to pick the starting QB for the packers is the packers coaches and front office, not pressure from fans via Farve.  A few weeks ago when Farve told the Pack that he wanted to come back, the team was already set on Rodgers.  The asked Farve to give them a list of teams that he was willing to play for, they were going (still are?) trying to trade him to a place where he wants to play.  Obviously the Packers are looking out for the best interest of the Packers first, and Farve second, that's why a trade to Minn or Chicago is out of the Question.  That's also why the Packers don't want to release him, they don't want to give those teams a chance to sign him, and it would be nice to get something out of a trade as well.

I have nothing against Farve for wanting to come back and play, but the way he is trying to force the pack to make him the starting W+QB is bull.  Farve doesn't want to go anywhere else, he wants to start for the Pack.  He is acting like a baby that isn't getting his way, he is throwing a fit.  Boo-hoo.  Poor baby  :P

Farve was a great QB, but if Brady retires today, I list Brady higher all time than Farve.  Brady has 3 rings.  Manning only has 1, farve only has 1.  Montana won 3 rings in a town that had very little ties to it's sports teams.  Favre won 1 ring in a town that had immense ties to it's sport team, although it hasn't seen a championship in a long time.  They aren't even in the same tier, IMHO
