USA's greatest [sic] driving road (CA 33)

"Best" is always controversial, but no doubt looks like a great road. "You can drive for an hour and not see a car". Any DMFers play on this regularly?
This Is America’s Greatest Secret Road
Of course, now that they made a video, it ain't a secret anymore.

I think that any post about a good road has Moto content by definition, however, for this to be a "best road" it looks like it has way too many straight parts!

USA's greatest driving road?
It's a good road, I've ridden on it a lot.
It's part of my preferred path if I'm riding North.
I use it primarily to get to even better roads.
Greatest? No.
A lot of it is pretty open, so one can haul ass if you're so inclined.
But like most mountain roads, there's consequences if you make a mistake.
I didn't watch the whole video, but they were blathering on about using it to get to Pebble Beach.
There's way better stuff between the end of the 33 and Pebble Beach.
If I'm going that far North, I go about 15 miles past Taft, then head West on the 58.
I wouldn't go North past that on the 33.

That was the rationale.
Agree, the map shows what looks like a lot of straights, but the shots of the road has some really nice mountain curves, so maybe they straightened out in scale.

USA's greatest driving road?
Yeah, "greatest" labels always seems to ensure that the thing is not the greatest.
I do like the idea of little or no fellow autos on the road, though!

The first 40 miles or so north of Ojai are good, after that is fairly flat and straight.
Perhaps in a $XXX,XXX car, it's a different deal.
Indeed, there's not a lot of traffic.
But there's a couple roads that join the 33, have the same lack of traffic, and are much more fun, IMO.
But , eh, personal preference; blondes, brunettes, redheads, beer, wine, liquor, etc.
YMMV.

Had to look this up. We used 33 for a vehicle product launch out of the Biltmore in Santa Barbara in 2002 and again in 2006 out of the Inn in Ojai. Can get exciting when boulders fall into the road.

Mmmm, yes, boulders in the road would be exciting.
I don't recall it being much different than the other mountain roads here as far as rocks in the road.
Occasional spots of rocks that could take you down on a moto, and a very few of the size that would tear up a car.

Guy Webster told us (during a tour of his collection at his house) that he specifically moved to Ojai for the 33. Can't be all that bad.

Gas up in Ojai.
Then up the 33 and west on the 166 to Santa Maria, ~120 miles.
Up the 33, and northwest on Lockwood Valley past Frazier Park to the %, ~70 miles.

The very same, but the weather had other ideas.

we did a big chunk of that as a DMF ride years ago.
between 101 and 166 it's fun. north of that, yawn.
stop in ventucopa at The Spot for a decent meal.
I usually make a right on 166, then take 95 back to Frazier Park.
