Reserve Fuel Trip Meter Resets When Shutoff

I have a 2009 Monster 1100S with 19000 miles. All is well except that this past Fall I noticed that the reserve fuel trip meter resets to zero when the ignition switch is turned on after I've shut it off before I have an opportunity to refuel.
Has anyone had a similar experience? And what can be done to fix this?

Annoying. I've heard of this happening with late model bikes like the MTS1200 and Hyp821. First I've heard of this on an earlier model with that feature.  I'm sure you're not the only one.
What does your dealer say about  this?
