What's up everyone.
Just a quick question since I don't know many people in person with other Ducatis...
2013 Monster 1100 Evo with 1K on the clock.
After warm up and about 10 miles of driving at idle I get a strange "scratching" noise. I'm at about 4 bars when it happens and it's only there when I'm sitting but the engine is still on. It's not the typical clutch noise/my 696 never made this noise.
I know these bikes make a ton of random clicks and clanks, but I can't find anywhere online with a similar description of the problem. Can't tell what side it's coming from either. Haven't been able to replicate it for Ducati to take a look at it, going to try next week.
It's never there at low temps.
Thanks all.

Welcome.
Some things to consider.

What area do you think the noise is coming from? Is the sound rhythmic or a-rhythmic? Is there a chatter to it? Does the sound increase in volume and intensity with engine revs, does it keep up in rhythm with engine revs or does it fade away with engine revs? Is there an accompanying whine to the sound? Is there any vibration accompanying the sound? Does the vibration feel like a tingle or knock?

Checking the cam/timing belts is something often suggested as a precaution when a noise of concern is heard.

Thanks for the notes.
Is the sound rhythmic or a-rhythmic?
Definitely rhythmic
Is there a chatter to it?
Not sure what you mean, but the noise doesn't get affected by moving the bike one way or another.
Does the sound increase in volume and intensity with engine revs, does it keep up in rhythm with engine revs or does it fade away with engine revs?
No, it's gone when engine is revving, it's only at idle.
Is there an accompanying whine to the sound?
Whirring when the revs are winding down and coming to a stop but my 696 had that as well and was told it was a typical duc sound.
Is there any vibration accompanying the sound?
No noticeable vibration, it's in rhythm with the engine's typical vibration

Does the vibration feel like a tingle or knock?

Welcome ye Reddit refugee.

You might want to spend a few bucks on a mechanics Stethoscope like so:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015DLMOO/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687662&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0002SQYSM&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=13DCFW4VCZDP7KKKS1FF

using the probe, it'll at least help you narrow down the location of the noises source.

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I've arrived!

So I found a similar video of the problem: http://www.ducati.ms/forums/42-monster/275233-weird-idle-when-hot-1100-evo.html

That's the exact noise, looks like the belts are too tight. Here's to hoping no damage too bad has been done...taking the bike in tomorrow.

Glad that you have put a fine point on it. Hopefully it's just a matter of correcting the tension and nothing more.
