What are these spacers?

My M695 has spacers between the footpeg brackets and their mounts to the engine and subframe.  They're 8mm thick silver discs - four on each side.  Maybe they serve to locate the muffler hangers?  I'm fitting some aftermarket slip-ons and am wondering if I can remove these spacers to get the cans inboard as much as possible.  It looks like the brake and shift pedals would line up ok without them...

Thanks

No, I have some oval Micron cans low mount, about 2" shorter than the stock mufflers.  I'd like to get them in as close to the swingarm as possible...

you still need them . . . unless you replace OEM rearsets with aftermarket and then you would have to fabricate hangers for low moint exhaust

I don't mean to lose the footpeg brackets (#8 - footpeg holder plates in the parts list) - just the spacers - (#21 in the diagram) :

Actually this parts list/diagram is not correct or complete for my M695 - it lists only one spacer, but there are four on each side, one at each of the mounting points.

The bands that came with my mufflers are the right height to hang from the stock mounting points - I'm hoping to lose the spacers to move the cans inboard a bit.

You will need at least the washers for the bushings.  Count them on both sides.  Removing the spacers might not give you enough clearance from the swing arm at full suspension travel, check first.

You likely will need to shorten the 10mm threaded portion of the mount bolts that go into the motor.

Be careful threading them in, check to make sure that the threads aren't bottoming out before the shoulder contacts the backup washers.

^^This.  I've seen bolts bottom out in those M10 holes, continue to be torqued and broke the case into the engine oil.  It wasn't very fun.

It was difficult to see at first, but the forward lower bolt on the left side is holding the sidestand on - the spacer under is actually part of the sidestand mount.  So all the rest of the seven other spacers, three on the left and four on the right, are just there because of the sidestand mount.  So I pulled out the four upper ones and painted 'em black to match the frame and footpeg brackets.  One of these days I have to get a lift to get the bikes up off the floor...
