I rarely if ever ride with other bikes and if I do there's none of that shit going on. Take it to the track.  ;)
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

The guy in front...  His ass end starts to step out at 43 seconds into the vid - the instant his rear tire crosses the black mark that can be seen seen at 0:51 - 0:52. (from the shoulder between the guardrail and big rock extending into the lane at ~45deg)

Correlation?  Or just coincidence that "x marks the spot" that he ran out of talent?

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

I could be wrong, because I've never run that road, but from the drone shot, it looks as if the lead up to the corner is uphill, then the corner flattens out, instead of being slightly banked. Which to me would explain why there are so many lowsides there.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

Canyon riding is a strange beast.   For some, it's the only/easiest place to go that's got turns that are not 4-way intersections; it just happens to be littered with all kinds of things that could kill you...  I believe that most people think that they need to be a highly skilled rider BEFORE considering a trackday, rather than viewing it as safer, controlled environment meant for figuring out how you and your motorcycle work together.   There's a funny Robert Shimmel bit about  being too out of shape to go to the gym because everybody there looks like a fitness model.  He needed to find the gym that you go to before you go to The Gym...  I'm guessing that is what canyon riding is for some people who might think they are not "good enough" yet to do trackdays.  For others, they just do not know any better until something bites em.

I do have a true story that parallels this topic.   A racer friend of mine called out one of the regulars that charge up and down The Snake after he posted pictures of dragging elbows through that famous corner.   Once the arguing and banter settled, my friend eventually invited "the squid" out to one of our mini races and even provided a bIke.  The squid was hooked and tagged along to club races and trackdays  where he earned the privilege of sampling various equipment and was loaned a supersport bike to race in the amateur class for the season.   The yellow plates got traded in for white expert plates and he took a win against Benny Solis shortly after.  Today he announced that he will be representing Tuned Racing with support from Bridgestone/Sportbike Upgrade where he will be racing at several MotoAmerica events this year, including Laguna Seca.   This all happened over this past year and I'm proud to call the ex-squid my friend.  Tho he claims to have learned the error in his ways, I do see him pop up from time to time in those videos.     Get em Raffa!

btw, we both still race da minis...
I ride both kinds,   Country, and Western.....

Ha!  The same exact spot.  Must definitely be a tricky corner.

one of my very experienced buddies insists there's a slight bump mid corner that tosses people.  I've watched more than a fair share of videos of that corner and some of them, in slo-mo, there does seem to be something happening there because some bikes unsettle briefly then go down.  I don't know if it's the road, the camera, or the riders.

the first time I rode through there we got to the top and I said "that was it?"  granted, I wasn't going near as fast as most people who wad up their bikes there.
My fast lap is your sighting lap.

It appears there's about a 6 foot long patch in that lane that's the full width of the lane.

The patch is a slightly different color asphalt and looks to be slightly lower than the rest of the road.

In both videos the riders low-sided when their front suspension decompressed when they hit the dip.

At the 1:12 mark of the first video, you can see it  on the helmet cam of a rider coming up to the crash scene at a slower pace.

There's also a really clear shot of the patch in the drone footage starting around the 2:40 mark.

You could put up a neon sign with a arrow pointing at it, and they'll still crash there every weekend.  ;)

The sign wouldn't make it very long.

One of them would target fixate on it and take it out.

;D

I don't doubt that the patch has a different level of grip but it doesn't seem to be the main trigger of that second crash.    From my armchair, it looks like the front tucks just before he gets to the patch, a classic example of riding with too much weight and tension in your arms.  The way I see it, the rider is completely off the brakes, settling into the corner, and supporting his upper body with his arms.   As he tightens his line, his toe scrapes the ground, his body flinches, and that movement is transferred directly into the bars.  Just a guess.

Looks like he locked up the rear...

but I think the bottom line is if you are running close to 10/10ths on the street a crash is inevitable.

i think this one is a derby. Read through this thread:

In this last one, you can see the slow-mo of the guy locking the back. Not so much like the other lowsides.
