Greetings from the middle of Iowa.  Picked up a 2008 Monster S2R 1000 over Easter weekend.  I've wanted one ever since I saw the movie Fled in high school.  I have great taste in movies.  Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger.

Drove out to Colorado Springs, just missing the big snow storm.

Got her loaded up.

The snow started rolling in again, so we tarped it.  When I took off the next morning, there was 3" of snow on the ground.  Pulled off for my first refuel, and it turned out the tarp was a bad idea.  It whipped so hard that it broke the rear turn signals and the rear fender.

Which meant I had less than a mile of riding on it before I took a saw to it.  Looks much better with the fender delete.  It has turn signals, just snapped the pic before I got them in.

Haven't matched up the front signals yet.  Not sure if I'll try to find matching signals with longer stalks or go with the bar end signals.  I also put on the CRG levers and blind sight mirrors.

The windscreen was pretty beat up, so I polished it and tinted it.

And that's where I'm at.  It's been too windy and cold to get much riding in yet, but I'm pretty excited.

Here are my other bikes for those interested.

1981 Yamaha XS850

1989 Honda VTR 250 Interceptor (how could I not buy this one?  it's so damn 80's...)

You live in Iowa, drove to Colorado to buy a bike with Texas plates?   Grin  (What's funny about that is.... my wife is from Davenport, I was stationed at Fort Carson (Colorado Springs,) and I live in Texas.)

Welcome!

Interesting collection you have...  the XS is a 3-cylinder, isn't it?  If memory serves, both the 750 and 850 were triples.

What other mods are you thinking of for the Monster?

Haha, yes, that's what I did.  The story is kind of funny.  I bought it from a buddy of mine.  I completely forgot he had a Monster.  I hadn't seen him for a few years since I lived in Texas.  I texted him randomly one day with a link to a Monster saying hey, look at this bike I want to buy.  He thought I was messing with him, since as it turns out, he was selling his.

I'm going to put the bike on the dyno, then just ride it this year.  Next winter I'll do exhaust, air intake, and ECU, then re-dyno next spring.  I'm lucky that we have a motorcycle dyno just a half mile from my house.

The Yamaha is a triple.  I really like that bike...every ride I go on or bike night I show up to, I'm the only one.  It dyno'd 33 hp when I got it.  It dyno'd 54 hp last fall before the clutch gave out.  So new clutch, valve shimmed, all new seals...I'm hoping for 58-60 hp this spring.
