2 Bikes - 1 Trailer How do I...
«

I'll be hitting the road for Phoenix on 2 August, and plan to rent a U-Haul 5X9 trailer. It's the one with the hydraulic assist ramp. I've used them a number of times. Great for hauling a bike.
Problem is, I have two bikes to load. The trailer should be wide enough, but there are only two tie down padeyes up front, in the front corners, two more along the sides mid way back, and two more in the rear corners.
Not sure how to secure two bikes with this arrangment. This sides of the bikes on the outsides will have places to tie off to, but what about down the middle of the trailer where each bike needs a tie down as well?
Anyone have experience at this?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Norris

Get a big eye hook and put it into a 2X4 then screw (or bolt) the 2X4 into the floor between the bikes. This will give you a tie down point in between the bikes. I have something similar in the bed of my truck and I have hauled two bikes several times with no issues.
That is my suggestion.

Would bolting the big eye hook in the bed of the trunk towrds the front and between the bikes work? It would eliminate the 2X4. I have
not
trailered two bikes myself so I'm not sure if this will be enough. If this is a rented trailer, can you bolt or screw anything else to the floor?

What holes in the floor? Oh, you mean those? I have no idea where those came from. They must have already been there when you rented me the trailer. Why would I drill holes in the floor of your trailer? What are you trying to say? You know, I don't think I like your attitude young man! Just for that next time I need to rent a trailer I will not be giving you my business. There, take that! And good day to you sir!!
There, problem solved.

A little wood filler and you're good to go.

When I moved here I had two bikes in the back of the moving truck.
There were no anchor points... so I bought eight SUPER heavy duty hooks.
They look like the ones you hang a bicycle from the garage ceiling... but are twice the size...
I think they are 7/16" thick. Very tough.
I bought them at Lowes (in Maryland -but I bet you can get them here.
I screwed them in the oak floor on an angle and they didn't budge.

We're forgetting the first step in this process.
Step 1 - Tear up rental agreement.
Step 2 - Drill holes
