Have an 06 620. currently running  a closed airbox with a K&N filter inside, with Danmoto slipons and a PCIII. If I were to cut the top off of said airbox cover , would it be worth it , as far as horsepower gains ?

If your bike with the PCIII and current set up was adjusted on a dyno - another dyno day would be required to gain power with an open lid - I think.

If the PCIII has a map from another set up, then an open lid could be the missing piece of a better result.

Yep, dyno for the mods is best, but you can have some good luck with map downloading for the proposed mods. Dynojet has a map library you can access. My brother tried two or three maps for his open airbox, hi comp piston, slip on fitted M900ie and found one from FBF that worked very well.
