01 900ie, unknown mileage on engine, rest of bike has 13k.  rough engine/surging when cruising at speed, seems to idle fine. Left side engine case has paper gasket, problem apparent with stock crank sensor shim (1.0 mm) 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, and 0.5 mm shim.  Currently using the 0.8. Plugs checked for gap and fouling. Replaced crank sensor with one that has 6k on it, same issue. I have/had intermittent starting issues.  Rocking the bike back and forth seems to help that for some reason?! I always hear the fuel pump prime. So I was thinking the paper gasket and crank sensor had something to do with it...  Valves and fuel map done 4k ago by dealer, belts changed 6k ago...

Bike was fine last season in current form (paper gasket, stock shim, old sensor), I originally thought the problem was a loose chain, but it has not gone away with adjustment so I assumed the intermittent starting might be related.

Any ideas where to look next would be appreciated.
Thank you

Had an issue like yours a few weeks ago with a customer's M620 . . .

Good info, to follow up on your thread mine is also an 04 620 but with a 900 transplant... That said, I have Remus high mounts that have been shortened 6 inches with the 01 900 header, no exhaust clog possible...  I do have a metal tank, I will check there.  Fuel filter maybe?  Now that I think of it, this may have coincided with the throttle cable jumping out of throttle body.  Maybe have them synced and cable adjusted?

So, you're running the IAW59M ECU?
Check your TPS and trim settings and the fuel filter and lines . . .

I have no idea what ECU I'm running! [laugh] Stock 620 ECU with power commander map done by local ducati shop.  Can I check TPS or do I need to bring back to Duc? (I live next door literally, so it's not a big deal to)  Fuel filter could probably stand to be replaced along with air filter, both original.  What am I looking for on the fuel lines? Clogging?

DarkMonster620

How long have you had the 900?

Running a 620 map + pc3 seems a "bit heavy "  . . would recommend better a 900 reflash and the pc3 for "fine tuning" . . .

Uf fuel/air filter are original then cause could be as simple as fuel filter replacement . . .

But yes, you could next door and have tps checked . . . and tps then reset to correct spec

Stock 620 ECU is a IAW59M.  Fuel filter seems likely to me followed by a tank of bad gas.  All other items would be digital in nature (like a light switch, either ON or OFF in how they mess with the bike).

I've had the 900 for 6000 miles, all was fine until recently when it got picky about starting. I will bring to the dealer this weekend for sensor check, tps reset, TB sync along with belt change.  I will change fuel and air filters (I don't want to pay them for that)

Brought to the dealer today, had them check all sensors, sync throttle bodies, and adjust throttle cable.  No issues found, stated there is surging around 3800-4200 RPM but cant determine the cause.  Noted that sprockets are worn and too look for tight spots in the chain.  I ordered new sprockets and chain today as well as adjusting timing belts.  We shall see if it helps.
