I mean, let's be real here. We all know that 99% of the people that buy the "race only" stuff are not using it just for that purpose. But I never would have guessed that Harley would give up that easily. I imagined they would put up at least SOME fight...

I think the fact that Harley sold them through a franchise, and likely many bikes were delivered new to customers is an issue.

Waaaay different than an individual seeking out a manufacturer of tuning devices other than the OEM.

Not a big surprise this occurred, since many new H-Ds are fitted with accessory exhaust and air cleaners right off the bat as part of dealer setup, usually at customer request....

Factory calibration is ridiculously lean. My '06 VRSCR was almost dangerously so. Not anymore.  ;)

This is no different that the Termi setup with "RACE" ECU on the bike I purchased from the dealer. It was set up at my request and I picked it up with everything installed, stock exhaust in a box.

but, at your request, it can go back to OEM lean map . . . it is stored in the "USB" key that came with the exhaust . . .

Right, but so can these tuner boxes sold by HD.

I understand that these are not designed for use on the road, but I just don't understand why HD didn't put up more of a fight...

Because they knew that it was cheaper just to pay?

They did the math.
This is why in the end everyone has to go water cooled on the big bores.

So how will this impact Ducati dealerships that remove the emissions canisters for you and then add on Termis, high flow air-filter and DP chip?

The canisters are CARB, not EPA, so unless you're in California... For two years dealers in CA have been unable to sell exhausts.

It appears those Harley tuning boxes were for aftermarket pipes. Harley will need a quick workaround or they'll go out of business as unbearable noise is their stock and trade.  8)

That is not true. I bought my 821 last year and had the Termi race kit installed before I picked it up. It was included in the sales contract.
