M695 Wiring Flaws
«

Mama mia Luigi! Whatsa with the capelli d'angeli wiring inna my Mostro? I just finished repairing another broken wire to my rear lighting, due to the thin gauge of the wire - don't know how long I've been riding around with no brake light. Most of the wiring seems robust enough, and is sheathed and zip tied securely, and has nice weatherproof metri pack connectors. But when I hooked up my mosfet regulator a few months ago, I noticed that the yellow wires were on the thin side, and that connector, which really should be weatherproof, was not. So I'm wondering what other flaws in my wiring I might want to fix before I find myself by the side of the road, cursing Gabriele Del Torchio.
Any tips on wiring fixes or upgrades for the 695?

Hmmm, no takers...well, here's one for you:
Looking in from the right, (no airbox) the bundle of wires from the ignition switch (top, left of center) that has just emerged from the bottom of the switch housing, makes a head fake left to where it's zip-tied to another bundle, then cuts back across to the right side of the frame (lower right) and then crawls back to the left side along a frame tube, where it enters an unsealed snap connector zip-tied to the front of the tube. This is one of the critical connections, and it's just hung there facing into whatever spray might be there. And it takes a foot of wire to cross the frame twice, just to get to where it started. I'm ranting here, right?
I'll be revising this one.

You can read through this thread for some thoughts. Not a 695, but same nest of wires.

Might try paging suzyj if she's still around, or at least check out her threads. Here's a great one:

I must point out that Kopf's boy possesses world class wiring skill.
And suzyj's skill-set is the most astonishing I've seen in my life.
Their work is indeed inspirational.

Those are some great looking projects, guys - thanks for the links. I'm just looking to fix the worst of it, though - replace the unsealed connectors etc, and tidy it up a bit.

In the photo above, the bottom two wires entering the connector (coming from the ignition switch, white/red stripe, and blue) don't come out the other side. It's six wires in and four out, and the two unconnected wires have no voltage when the key is on.
I'm replacing this connector - should I just use a four pin connector and just wrap these two wires? I suppose this is just a case of Ducati using the same wiring on other models? And what amp rating would be needed for this connector?

The wiring diagrams are available online if you really want to dig deep. Last page of the owners manual.

Capt Obvious here...
Ducati?
Wasn't Ducati an electrical manufacturer originally?

Just make sure those 2 wires (white/red stripe, and blue )may be jumps together so the wiring can work.... I've seen this a couple of times in ducati wiring .....
Also that conector dosen't look OEM to me ......it looks like a connector you get a the local electronic shop....
