i have a 2008 Tricolore S4RS and with only ridden 2,000kms on it (i have five other bikes and commute every day and the S4 is not good at the commute into the City). i've taken my MTS1100 onto the track and had a great time, and am keen to take the S4 out there too.
i have found the front brake to be particularly aggressive and and this concerns me with track day in mind.
Can other Monster owners share some advice on taking this unmodified bike onto the track and its limitations?

Either get used to the brakes or maybe change pads. Sanding/scuffing down deposits on the rotors and sintered pads works great for me.

If you're not really heavy and you have adjusted the suspension, that bike can handle lap times close to only 10% slower than the superbike lap record - with good tires and a skilled rider. More often the limit is the rider and/or bike set up.

(Your tank leak thread should be in Tech and this should be in Racing & Trackdays. You can move them yourself)

Can you elaborate on your concern? While the brakes on the S4Rs are good, there's notably more powerful out there these days and people are fine with.

Regarding limitations - Monsters won't have the lean clearance of a sport bike. But if your body position is neutral or inside the bend it'll be fine even up to a fairly quick pace.

Hi Slide Panda,
My S4RS has the mono block calipers. ( i can still hear the pads being ground away by the rotors - i have never heard this before on a bike), and they locked up when I squeezed the lever a bit too quickly a while ago in an emergency - way sooner than i expected.
BTW - i have ridden new MTS and Diavel without noticing this sound or this level of aggressiveness.
Thx for comments re tack use. i dont want to set any records, just to have fun scratching knowing that the bike doesn't have any nasty characteristics that i have yet to discover other than what seem to me to be aggressive brakes.

I'm 80kg - no clothes. Bike is standard set up. Good to know it is ok on the track. i know already that the engine is willing enough.
generally speaking and considering my weight would you expect much change from the standard suspension set up?

You should get some clothes on  Grin

I'm not familiar with your suspension, but would think you're good to go without adjustments. If it, at your pace, doesn't go 'on rails' you can then ask for help with the set up. If you want to start the adjustments sooner, I think there are basic set up instructions in the owner's manual.

Remember that suspension is always a compromise and that the rider needs to ride around flaws.
